This is not exactly true. If the FDLS had a different name for their church therre would be very little problem within the mormon communitty. The problem comes with name identification. There is no comparison between the two churches. They are quite different. The otherr problem is when the lds church is guilty by assiociation. This is not right either. Most mormons have nothing against the polygamy principle as practiced by the early mormons. In fact, many are proud of their church history. Very few mormons are struggling with their feelings about polygamy.
LDS are actively defending the FLDS position. why?

Thanks for the great advice. These guys on the board do seem to make it a personal thing. I will try to ignore the more personal posts directed at me.

I kinda feel sorry for these guys on this section of the forum. I remember that I posted an email by a priest to me and I did receive some personal threads. Strange but NPR and the BBC not to mention the French news station in English, agreed with what I said on that thread when the pope is now visiting the US.
not strange at all. NPR, BBC and especially the french media are american hating, proabortion, progay marriage, secualr humanists. so if you are in agreement with them, what does that say about your position?

They are not defending the FLDS position. But some mormons want to see the evidence of abuse. So far it has not materialized. Also, it seems to me that the abuse has also occured by the state of texas. The government should need a good reason to separate families. In this case, it seems that it was lacking.

There are girls from the cult that are under the care of Child Protective Services that are under 16 and PREGNANT. How can you say that there is no evidence? By definition these girls were raped. Having sex with a girl under 16 is statutory rape, it’s child abuse. No evidence has materialized? Baloney!

And to answer those who are wondering why LDS are making excuses for FLDS ~ It’s a sensitive topic since polygamy is part of regular LDS doctrine, if not in this world, then in the next. For a regular LDS to say anything against polygamy would also be criticizing their own doctrine.

Of course not. In Texas we do not have trial by press. Ongoing investigations are not opened up to anybody for the asking. Mormon (LDS) get no say and no answers. They are not involved. The public does not have a right to know… yet.

and what good reason did the FLDS have for separating families to populate this particular location?

there is easily probable cause in this case. informants over a 4 year period, jeffs own record, documents found in the search, teenage girls with multiple children…that’s just the sexual abuse…what about polygamy itself? we all know they are doing that there, it IS illegal and the LDS church agreed to oppose polygamy in exchange for utah statehood. where is the LDS condemnation of this practice?

LDS can’t condemn polygamy, it’s doctrine for them.

Why Me,
You have clearly shown a fundamental truth about Mormons - they see females as property first and human beings second. You can’t recognize that coercing a 14 or 15 year-old female into sex and plural marriage is abuse because, after all, they are mere property.

This idea was well expressed by LDS apostle Heber C. Kimball when he said:
I think no more of taking another wife than I do of buying another cow.
Your mindset is 100% Mormon.

Pregnant minors is not evidence of abuse? Last I checked statutory rape is still a crime…hence abuse.
