Hi yall,

I need your help. I’ve never seen a Byzantine wedding before so I can’t really help my friend. He and his Girlfriend have been asked by the bride to prepare floral arrangements for the wedding. The bride is not Orthodox. The groom is.

About all I could tell him was not to place flowers in front of the deacon doors or the royal doors. What floral arrangements are appropriate for a Byzantine Wedding? Thanks! Your help is very appreciated.

Nothing near the tetrapod either. In fact (and here I might slip into opinion), the fewer the better. It’s really easy to get tacky with flowers…

Your best bet: Ask the pastor. Really, you need the pastor’s permission, anyway, and he’ll be the one to tell you what’s seasonally acceptable.

Remember: A byzantine wedding is about the community and God accepting the union, and not so much about the desires of the couple.

You guys don’t really “get” Byzantine culture yet do ya?

the couple needs to see the pastor about marriage preparation in any case and these questions are usually dealt with sometime during that prep, including music, attendents, attire and other practical questions that arise. Unclear about the situation, if one is Orthodox, does that person’s pastor even allow the wedding? Is the other party Byzantine? what does that pastor say?

Focus on the essentials of the Byzantine Wedding. Floral arrangements are far less important. If needed use them for the reception. We had to fight for the ‘common cup’ ceremony to be rightfully restored to the wedding ceremony itself rather than a footnote to the reception.

I haven’t witness a byzantine wedding…is it different arrangement compared to being arrange for a catholic wedding? I’m a businessman which covers flower arrangement calls Olive & Cocoa and most of my clients are from catholic religion
