So my parish priest does this thing after mass for children it’s sort of a Catholic version of Sunday school…

He was teaching these kids about a saint who could fly and levitate…

And then mentioned another one that could appear in two places at once via bilocation…

Are these stories true? I mean no offense Mother Teressa didn’t zoom all over the skies of Calcutta… :confused:
 
But that was all like hundreds of years ago! Why are there no modern accounts?

Why couldn’t Mother Teressa fly or Blessed Papa John Paul II bilocate?
 
St. Padre Pio is a pretty modern account. Anyways, it’s a rare gift (as is that kind of faith), so there are only those few accounts. Oh, and don’t forget The Flying Nun. 🙂

These are signs, given to show the power of God over physical nature; they are not given to everybody, nor for someone’s convenience (or to save them money:)). God designed the normal laws of nature that we are to live our life within.

However, as with our LORD and His ascension, maybe we will all have these abilities, when we have our pneumatikon soma.

One book: Three words.

Mysteries, Marvels, Miracles by Joan Carol Cruz.

She actually goes through a bunch of different miracles, some new, some old. And it just so happens that levitation is one of the first chapters. I LOVE this book. You should check it out.

did you think to ask the names of these saints?
St. Joseph Cupertino was seen to levitate during Mass because of the intensity of his devotion to Christ. Padre Pio could bilocate when necessary to visit souls in need. That is by no means characteristic of all saints, and in neither case is it the reason these persons became saints.
 
Her fellow nuns used to hold St Teresa of Avila down so she would not levitate during her states of rapture.

yes, St Padre Pio and St Joseph of Cupertino.

St Padre Pio actually lived last century so it’s very well documented, and yes he could fly and appear in different places at the same time (bilocation). It’s a miracle. Here’s more about his life: padrepiodevotions.org/biography.asp

St Padre Pio lived fairly recently… also there are many miraculous stories about St Gemma Galgani, who also lived fairly recently. (though less recently than St Padre Pio… but the miracles were described by her spiritual director who witnessed many of them).

there are different Saints… each for a different purpose. It’s not these types of things that contribute to canonization… it’s just ways that God chooses to work through the person.

Our pastor was in the monestary with a brother who levitated. There are modern accounts but they don’t usually get into wide-spread knowledge unless or until the person is considered for beatification.
 
I have to admit that some of the accounts of the Saints are hard for me to believe. How much does the Church officially believe?

I am reading about St. Francis, and he is said to have done so many miracles, that I do wonder how much is hearsay?

Did Teresa and St John actually levitate while praying together?
 
I can just hear Padre Pio’s mom when he was a teenager, “Francesco Forgione stop levitating and clean your room. And don’t you bilocate up there use the stairs!”

I have such a warped sense of humor 😛
 
I wish there was modern proof like a picture or video… 😦

I’m not doubting these stories or anything… I guess this kind of stuff requires a leap of faith…
 
St Martin of Porres was said to fly all around to serve souls in need. TrueLight i know you are African-American so you might be interested in him as he is the first black saint from the Americas, his mother was a former slave and his father a Spanish noble. I’ve always had a strong connection to him and love him very much 🙂
