Flipping through the channels tonight I made a couple stops on the Fox News channel. Both times included talk about “gay marriage” and both times nobody on their panels stepped up to defend traditional marriage. I think Fox is better than most other news outlets but their catch phrase - “fair and balanced” didn’t apply on my visits there tonight.

Besides EWTN Fox is a good and only place to turn to hear and watch traditional marriage support. Its sad to see they starting to break down.

On FNC they were saying things like - conservatives need to get on board with “gay marriage” otherwise they’ll lose elections. My disappointment was that there wasn’t anyone who I saw that spoke up and said something like - what about conservatives (and non-conservatives) who think marriage should be between a man and a woman?

That is a shame. They should have Rick Santorum on their show, he is boldly for traditional marriage.

What show on FNC were you watching? The Five? Hannity? O’Reilly Factor? There are staunch Catholics on all 3; I would be surprised if no one spoke up.

FNC makes a point of having a liberal speaker on every panel. You can’t say that any other network always has a conservative (IMO).

Here are the shows in question that I am referring to:

1.The Five

2.The Greg Gutfeld Show

Whether they are staunch Catholics or not, they should live up to the FNC battle cry of fair and balanced - which in this case should have had at least one person speak up to say what many Americans think - that marriage should only be between a man and a woman.

By the way, did you catch my other thread about O’Reilly, at: forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=963564&highlight=John1956 ? O’Reilly can do better.

To be fair and balanced, Fox News does put out some good, strong pro-life messages, e.g.:

"*What about rape? Rape is among the more horrific violations of human dignity imaginable. But it is a crime committed by the male, not the female – and certainly not by the child it might produce. When rape results in pregnancy, the baby has the same right to life as any child born by mutually loving parents. Only the Nazis would execute a child for the crimes of his or her father.

Every abortion ends the life of an innocent unborn human being. When politicians in both parties claim to be pro-life but favor abortions because of the criminal behavior of the father, as in rape or incest, they are politically rejecting that hard truth. What other violations of the natural law will they condone for political expedience?*"

Not surprising at all. Rupert Murdoch, Chairman and CEO of News Corp, the parent company of Fox news, and his front man, Roger Ailes, want to win elections for the Republican Party. They primarily represent Wall Street, along with Karl Rove and Texas oil money. The strategy of appeasing the evangelical Southern voter block is secondary to first pleasing Wall St and oil money. Less regulation and more tax breaks are the number one issues for them. They talk a big game against SSM and abortion during election time, however, at the national level in D.C. if it doesn’t happen, they respond by stating “well, we at least tried”.

On the other side, you have the Dems with their California Hollywood and Silicon Valley donors supporting an open free for all secular society. They use the immigration issue with the support of Catholic Hispanic voters to beat up the Republicans in national presidential elections.

So far the best political strategy has been the Koch Brothers using their money to influence State legislatures to reduce the number of abortion clinics in the U.S. However, the recent U.S. Supreme court ruling in Texas appears to have momentarily stalled that strategy.

We’ll have to watch to see how SSM plays out among the Republican presidential candidates and the 2016 election otherwise it may end up as a non issue for the U.S. electorate.

God Bless and Peace to all.

I’ve been saying for years that FNC is fiscally conservative but socially very moderate if not liberal. Just like the mainstream media helps to get liberals elected, I believe FNC has helped to get McCain and Romney elected for our presidential candidate the last two elections. Bill O’Rielly may be Catholic, but so is Nancy Pelosi. I’m not saying he is nearly as far left on issues of abortion and SSM as Pelosi, but I also don’t think he is in line with Catholic teaching on these issues.

Spot on.

Fox definitely does present both sides. And that is what matters, not whether the majority of hosts/anchors support or decry SSM.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen Tony Perkins on Fox News. Or Pastor Robert Jeffress and Fr. Morris. Or many other anti-SSM social conservatives like Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter, etc. And their own Dr. Keith Ablow has often spoken out vehemently against SSM.

Not to mention that up until recently, Mike Huckabee was speaking out against SSM on his own show on Fox.
