Foil and Plastic Wrap....Did you Know?

So I saw this on another forum I go to, I am shocked I never knew this and how many other people didn’t unless the read Woman’s Day I guess.

Anyway, did you know that there are little tabs on the side of foil and plastic wrap boxes that prevent the roll from flying out of the box and 1/2 way across your kitchen!!!

Honestly they should have these things marked with **BRIGHT RED **arrows!!!
 
Yes, I always push them in before I open the box. Must not use a lot of aluminum foil or plastic wrap. They’re usually pretty well marked anyways.
 
They tend not to work well for me though. Now, I don’t loose the entire roll across the room but it will fall out and I have to push it back in (and yes it is probably my technique).

Just checked my foil & parchment paper and there are no such tabs. Must be an American thing. Or it depends on the brand. I’ll have to check at the grocery store.
 
Ha ha. I just found this out not too long ago too. :doh2:
 
I rec’d a wrapmaster set for Christmas - one for foil, the other for plastic wrap. I have to say it’s one of the best ‘gadgets’ I have EVER gotten. I’ve even given some as gifts!

Probably an American thing like milk in a bag is a Canadian thing.
 
Well at least I am not the only one that just found this out!!! 😛

I used to have something like this that would hold all 3 and hung on the wall, I LOVED that thing, although decided to leave it when I moved once. I should track another one down.
 
LOLOL, I had no idea. I’ll have to check when I get home to see if my boxes have them. They would be life savers for my kids. I LOL whenever my dd tries to use them. Comical 😃

In fact, when I went to check my foil box, the foil had separated from the box and was rolling around in the drawer… I agree with the bright red arrows idea.

That milk bag thing is crazy. I guess it saves on packaging, but I’m glad we don’t do it here. I’d be afraid the milk would go bad faster. (I don’t drink it much, only use for coffee & cereal, so this is a concern.)
 
I knew this but only because I read it (possibly here?) about a month ago.
 
It’s half-past midnight here in Korea, and I just got out of bed to check whether Korean foil and plastic wrap packages have the little tabs. 😃 The plastic wrap does, the foil doesn’t. Huh. It has never even occurred to me to check before. 🤷 The tabs are labelled in Korean in about 3-point font - no big red arrows here either.
 
Well all these years I never knew that:shrug:! As for the plastic wrap, I keep mine in the freezer because it comes off the roll cleaner & dosen’t stick together as much. I used to feel like Lucy everytime I used the stuff because it always became a tangled mess:blush:. Keep it in the freezer, it works alot better!👍
 
Yes I know this as of ONLY a few months. My sister was kind enough to email me a story going around…so I am not that smart! Would have come in handy many many many years ago!
 
The milk in a bag thing works pretty good. Its available through Kwik Trip/Kwik Star convenience stores in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Basically you snip off a corner of the bag, and drop the bag into a pitcher (which the store gives for free). The pitcher holds the bag well, and when you are done pouring, you close off the bag by sliding the open corner into a slot on the pitcher.

Its easier than it sounds! :o
And it keeps milk prices down, which is a good thing.

BTW, I had never heard about those tabs on rolls of plastic wrap and aluminum foil. But I will definitely be using them in the future!
 
I checked all the boxes at the grocery store earlier this evening. Saran has the tabs and so does the most expensive aluminium foil. The cheaper brands – which I tend to buy – don’t.

So, just as you can find milk in bags in some places in the US (while you can’t in my Canadian town), so you can find some boxes with tabs in Canada. Neither is an exclusively Canadian or American thing.
 
I’ve been keeping house for 40 years, and this is the first time I knew about this. So I went to the kitchen, found the tabs, pushed them in, and pulled off a piece of foil to see if it worked. (It did). Then my husband said, “Now what are you going to do with that piece of foil?”:o
