Well common sense - for one she was out numbered. Even if she shot one the other could still shoot her and number two (I think most would agree) the reflexes of an 80 old woman would be slower than the younger theives in question. I’m not saying it would have been impossible for her to come out of it alive just improbable.

I would never take a gun to class! Even if I owned one.

Can you imagine the majority of students having loaded weapons on their belts wherever they go? Man–I’ve witnessed enough altercations on campus to know that the situation would not be conducive to learning.

We ought to beef up and arm campus security (who would be patrolling the hallways of any one building at any one time during regular hours), not the students.

Are you saying your common sense is better than her hands-on experience?

How come students at Virginia Tech, who can legally carry handguns off-campus don’t do all these horrible things you predict?

Would those patrols carry guns?

The bright, shining point that many seem to miss is that Virginia Tech students can carry guns – at least those who are over 21 and have no criminal record.

Any citizen of Virginia who meets those criteria and who applies for a license to carry a concealed weapon cannot, by law be turned down. Any citizen of Virginia who can legally own a handgun may carry that handgun openly without a license.

It’s only on the campus of Virginia Tech they can’t carry – and that, of course is where they needed to carry.

It is, however, a step in the right direction.
True that.

I’ve had an Alabama permit for several years, will be getting something to have a permit for after the financial dust settles from tax season. I’ve had enough; would have trouble living with myself if some innocent person died because I wasn’t prepared.

I’ve carried for many years. I’d have trouble lifing with myself, too, if some innocent person died because I wasn’t prepared. Especially if that innocent person was me.😃

Several weeks ago my daughter had her car broken into at the local community college, and had her purse stolen. It turns out that there were five break-ins in one quarter in the same area of campus.. While they might be able to help in the event of campus shootings, I don’t think campus security is the complete solution.
