Yes, of courseWell I think its OK to hear women cooking dinner, cleaning the house, taking care of the kids-you know all the things God made them to do… smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_6_213.gif

At least he sought approval, which is required. Like you mentioned, how many parishes have the knowledge or approval of the Vatican to change this ritual when they ask women to come forward on Holy Thursday to have their feet washed?PAX
I see there is mixed signals, on this issue, Jim Akins says NO…
Father Edward McNamara says NO…
Archbishop Sean P. O’Malley got approval from the Vatican YES…
How Many other Priest & Bishops recieved approval ???
Because we are whiny of course.I see my last post provoked the feminists - just as I thought it might. Ultra feminism has no place in the church. The Catholic religion, in all its beauty, mystery and Traditions is perfect the way it is. Why change what Jesus handed down to us? Why do some women feel it is not enough?
Actually, in reading the USCCB document I found that body made it abundantly clear that the practice of washing women’s feet was NOT in accordance with the rubrics of the rite, but that they didn’t see any problem with doing it anyway. Mr. Blackburn simply relayed the actual liturgical guideline, without the smoke and mirrors to justify ignoring it.Marian,
Thank you for the links but that response does not give me much faith in the apologists here at CA. Mr. Blackburn makes it abundantly clear that it is not permitted, but prior to that (1987 to be precise) the USCCB made it clear that it was permited. Now even the conservative Cardinal O’Malley will himself wash women’s feet.
I pray that CA doesn’t go the way of Gerry Matatics; being more Catholic than the Pope.
I would have said feminist, but I know I would have come under attack for that. There’s a fine line between the two sometimes.Because we are whiny of course.

P.S. I am not sure what you mean by ultra feminist. I just did my last training as a volunteer at a pro-life women’s center. I don’t think that’s ultra feminism![]()

Lux_et_veritas said:"I thought it was the apostles themselves whose feet were washed. "
Another good point.
Good point! Iam going to go check out that linkI would have said feminist, but I know I would have come under attack for that. There’s a fine line between the two sometimes.
Here’s a link to a book you may have heard of. It is written by a Catholic woman, a journalist.
“Women Who Make the World Worse : and How Their Radical Feminist Assault Is Ruining Our Schools, Families, Military, and Sports (Hardcover)

I see… that’s a hardlined attitude don’t you think? Kinda arrogant don’t you think? How bogus is that? Bogus. A pretty vile statement if you ask me. Tell that to my husband and he’d remind you that women play a vital role in society, we are wives, mothers, sisters, ext. Women were created by God, and if God didn’t want us to be heard or whatever, why would He have bothered to create women? Tell me, why did He create Eve for Adam? If you think so lowly of women, what precisely pray tell do you think of Christ’s mother? Seen and not heard? I can’t believe you’d even make a statement like that! Good grief! If you meant it as a joke, then you should’ve indicated it was such! Iam a traditional wife, and my husband values my opinion, and I respect him, as head of the household., as it should be, your statement is very offensive. My husband would never say to me or anyone else what you have stated here. Makes you wonder were peoples values have gone to? Do you even value women in society? The womans role inWomen and children should be seen and not heard…or touched.

a marriage? Her value as a human being? Sort of sounds like you
don’t.![]()
. I am very upset that Jesus only chose men to His apostles. I told Him that last night in my prayers, and I have told Him that before. I think that precedent has certainly been used and abused in And outside of the church to diminish the value of women, and in my very tearful prayers, I have told Him that as well.
I intend to study why why the church teaches what it teaches.

Thank you for clarifying that for me. I do not remember the thread, but I appreciate you posting it for meMarilena, Kendy was being sarcastic…Do you remember this thread on women and the Church?

Really and I read in a book that the holy grail (fake of course) that was used at the Last Supper was really a singnial device that was used to call the UFO that came and took her away to another galaxy where she can be worshiped as Godess. The cult of Comet Hal-Bob are awaiting her return so she can bring them the more potent Hal-bob Cannibas Sativa necessary for meditation within the community. Oh, her husband died a long time ago (but his body disapperaed), and discenters (who claim to be his friends and were present at the Last Supper) left behind a book and an oral tradition that said what I said is not true.Come on! Every body knows Mary Madgeline was there-she was sitting to his right. I know this is true-i read it in a book!

(Cough, cough… Sorry, I forgot to exhale.)
The above sentences lead to an illogical conclusion. Mary was also a follower of Jesus and her feet were not washed. Perhaps it symbolized something more - like ordination!Hmmm…the Apostles were the followers of Jesus. In the modern Church, the Clergy represents Christ, and the laity are the followers. I suppose this includes womenSo I can see the logic behind it, however, many things need to be considered here. Above all, if the Church says don’t do it, don’t friggin do it…far out, if you don’t like what Rome says, well…I’m not gonna say what you should do, maybe pray infront of the Blessed Sacrament…
If it was just me, I would agree with you. However, I have my children to consider as well. If you are in the H-G diocese (Katy?), you know that there is a wide range in how reverently the Masses are celebrated here. It goes from just being “creative” to being a complete do-it-yourself affair. When I am alone, I can just “offer it up” but since Holy Thursday is not a Holy Day of Obligation, I will probably just go with the kids to the adoration following Mass or go to a Mass at a different parish.I not miss any part of the Triddum becuase of a disagreement with how the Priest conducted the liturgy.I am there to worship the Lord-not crtitique the Priest.
Thats kind of what I was thinking. Our priest washes everyones feet. I usually don’t go because I have corns and I think my feet are ugly. How comforting to know that women “diminish” the value and pertinance of an act.
