I know this is an odd question but, I remeber watching EWTN Web of Faith and Father Levis was talking about how boxing was bad becuase it was a sport that one intentionally attempted to hurt another and I know in football (at least on the defensive side) you are out to hurt someone. If it is wrong I don’t want to support it, so does anyone know?

The goal in football is not to hurt the other person, even though that might happen. If someone gets hurt on the field the game stops and they go out to help the man. Also the injuries in football are not like in boxing. In boxing your only goal is to KNOCK the opponent OUT as in concussion and internal bleeding with people cheering it on.

Well, the way the Houston Texans are playing is a sin, IMHO.😉

Dont forget green bay!

It isn’t a sin if played by the rules, but like anything, if you break the rules on purpose, like hurting someone after the play, that is a total sin. Football is the greatest game created, and the way the Redskins look this year, they are not sinning.

Football is a healthy good game that can relieve the system of pressure and tension.

However.

Deliberate injury is a sin.

Cheating at it, is a sin.

Unfortunately, these are part and parcel of the game.

Therefore, BE VERY careful about these parts of the game, which, inevitably will crop up.

Personally, I would stay away from group sports. Usually they lead to the sin of pride.

If you find a need to play football arising, (and… I just realised this is an American site, so footy means holding and throwing a ball.) then i think one should go back to basics and read the Gospels once again.

Nevertheless, both types of football are equal, and will cause an occassion of sin. You wouldnt believe the deliberate swipes some English footballers make. If you can stop yourself from doing such a thing then by all means PLAY to relieve the pressure of life.

However. I feel that we all reach a stage when we see playing sports as a step towards Christ. I.e they stop us sinning in general, but after a while, they in themselves detract from Christ.

Humbly yours.

In Christ.

Andre.

I played four years at UGA (University of Georgia / go dawgs) and never once heard of anyone trying to deliberately injure an opponent.

Has anyone ever in the history of football tried to injure another player? I am sure from time to time some players do this but it is completely outside of the rules and I would say pretty rare.

Play aggressive…yes. Play dirty…no.
