Football on Sunday?

I was just wondering. The last church I went to (though never really was one) before becoming Catholic was a SDA church and as you know they are really big on “Sabbath Keeping” and so forth. My question is not regarding Saterday or Sunday but, What is permissable on Sunday? The SDAs for the most part, you can’t do anything (or at least it seems like that to me but, I’m 20 so I look at rest diffrently than others), What does the Catholic Church allow one to do and not to do? Is watching Pro-football (Go Colts!!!) on sunday alright or is it something that encourages others to work on the lords day and not take the day off (and like situations)? Also, can we go buy stuff on Sunday or is that business work and should be avioded (unless needed in a serious way like medicene as apposed to a movie or junk food)? I just want to know the limits so I don’t screw up and can help others aviod the same delimas. Thanks you for the help (and pactince in reading this leangthy thing) and God bless.
 
Well, this may not be a response to your actual question but I saw that you said “Go Colts!” I am a huge Colts fan. I sure hope that they can finally beat the Patriots next week. Now onto your question…
 
From what I know, yes you can buy goods on Sunday, like shopping at a mall. You can also cut the grass. The key to these things are they enjoyable for you. I know people who think yard work is relaxing. While shopping is ok, it can be viewed as making others work. However, if they are working, they apparently have no qualms about it, have no backbone to stand up to their boss, or need the money badly. Another scenario is someone like a Doctor or Airline Pilot, their jobs require this. But enjoy the football game and go shopping.

God did not command us to rest on the seventh day to punish us. God in his infinite wisdom commanded us to rest on the seventh day because it important for us to rejuvinate our spirits to serve him better. If you enjoy football and you find it a welcome break from your daily responsibilities, then go ahead and watch it.

I personally believe that God is pleased if we participate with Him in the Eucharistic Celebration and then spend time with our family. My Mom and I are big Niner fans…we watched yesterday game knowing that God was being very kind to us.🙂

2181 The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor.119 Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin.
