Larowyn–for goodness’ sake make your own thread! If you don’t like football, fine.

If you want to debate the morality of football, START YOUR OWN THREAD!!!
 
I live in the Boston area and many of the players for the Patriots do great community service and are good role models for children. Take Teddy Bruschi for example, married with three kids and raises money for stroke victims. He suffered a stroke himself. GO Pats!

What’s the difference? Everyone will attack me here or there no matter what. I’m convinced that if today Jesus came down from heaven to tell everyone that football was wrong, people here would yell at him too.
 
With all the things going on in this world, I doubt Jesus would blink an eye at football.

Because the purpose of a thread is to discuss a topic and posters should not post simply to derail the thread from the original topic. The purpose of this thread was to discuss people being excited about the football season and you have decided to take over the thread by telling us that we are cafeteria catholics because we enjoy the sport.

Name calling and purposely derailing threads are both against CAF policy. Please stop being so unpleasant and make your own thread where you can discuss your issues to your heart’s content.

Jesus wouldn’t condemn footbal because its just a sport! A sport that involves tackling, but uses pads to offer protection.

What about Rugby? Why aren’t you whining about that?
Or Baseball? Ya know, people get hit by baseballs. It must be a bloodsport!

I may understand fighting sports, including martial arts Where people fight each other in tournaments for their own enjoyment and that of others. But even THAT does not hold a place in the Catechism, does it?

YOU are wrong, because YOU aren’t the Church, YOU aren’t God.

Neither are we, but the morality of sports has not been thrown into question by the Church. In fact, the mere idea that clergymen enjoy them points to there being nothing wrong with them.
 
The NFL has a lot of charities that it helps out. The United Way and the American Heart Association are two charities that can help change the lives of thousands of children and familys.
 
Anyway, this was to discuss football. I am excited about the Patriots after our terrible defeat in the super bowl. The season starts soon. I think that the biggest obsticle for the Patriots getting back to the super bowl are the Jaguars. Also, big Notre Dame fan, but they have many problems.

You could be talking to the next St Augustine for all you know, so I wouldn’t be so hasty to call me wrong if I were you.

I have no idea what rugby is or how it’s played, so I can’t say. But if there’s violence in baseball, then it’s considered bad sportsmanship; getting hit by a ball is usually unintended, and when it is, that’s bad sportsmanship too.
 
To return the thread to its origin, I have to say that my favorite teams (college) as you already know are the Texas A&M Aggies and anyone playing t.u. (or the University of Texas) and it’s getting to the point anyone playing Texas Tech:D

Pro I like the Texans and Indianapolis, but all football is good:D

I’m super excited for the season to start too! :extrahappy: Although, as a Green Bay fan, I have to say that I will be very glad when all this mess with Favre is sorted out. :rolleyes:

Anyways…

I am looking forward to Oregon Duck football this year. As good as Dennis Dixon was last year, he got hurt while we were in 2nd place. We’ve got a good quarterback this year, and I look forward to seeing what else he can do.
