One night I had a dream.I dreamed I was walking along the beach
with the LORD.Across the sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One belonging to me and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of my life flashed before me,I looked back at the footprints in the sand.I noticed that many times along the path of my life there was only one set of footprints.I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of my life.

This really bothered me and I questioned the LORD about it.LORD,You said that once I decided to follow You,You’d walk with me all the way.But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints.I don’t understand why when I needed You most You would leave me.

The LORD replied,My precious, precious child,I LOVE you and I would never leave you!During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of footprints,it was then that I carried you.

My sister showed me this poem and it striked me deeply that I began to weep.I loved and love this poem.Yes,the Good God would and will never leave HIS children in our times of trial and suffering.
You may have read this poem and what was your impression?

It is one of my favorite stories/poems that I have ever read. It used to make me cry, but I haven’t read it in a long time. Thank you for posting it and reminding me about it 🙂 I love this poem.

To want to write a parody about a cat walking along the shore. The final line to read, “My cat, my dearly beloved cat. Your Guardian loved you very very much, and he would never leave you. Those times when you saw only your pawprints in the sand? That was when he was cleaning out your litter box.”

This story shows up a lot in AA environments, by the way.

When I was sick in the hospital, I called for a Priest from across the street. He walked in and looked at me and said “take advantage of this grace you have”. Then he walked out. I didn’t know what grace was. I felt abandoned and confused. I had hoped to be consoled or something. I think now I am starting to understand. That’s what this poem means to me.Tim

I have that poem pinned up to my cork board. It reminds me that God will carry us through anything that we encounter. All we have to do is let Him.
