may i advise?
i know people on both sides. literally. so i know a bit more about what the people say on the other side of things.
it doesnt meant its TRUE! but they (escorts, workers, etc) many honestly believe that all protesters are at least potentially dangerous. they have been warned over and over about how someone will try to kill them. how the “evil religious right” will try to hurt them…
they are often scared of you.
so you must be gentle as doves.
you must always remember that they are frightened and angry people… and that any motion they do not understand, any noise they do not hear properly, will be seen as a threat…
there is no better thing you can do than pray, openly pray, a Rosary. on your knees if possible, but its not usually possible
If you have people shouting, it all blurs into a noise… an angry sounding noise if you are scared already… dont shout. talk, pray, stand silent.
waving hands? waving things? this can look scary to people who have been primed to think of you as frightening. make it clear WHAT you are holding (pamphlet? rosary?) keep your hands in sight. (wear gloves, it gets cold!)
ps. its hard to be scary in “nice clothes” but its hard to be warm in them! i suggest you avoid anything that looks military though (like anything camouflage…) i know they are often what is available and warm, but it makes the idea that you are “dangerous” look easier to believe.
