I’ve been trying to improve my prayer life recently, but I can’t seem to figure out why it’s such a stressful experience for me to pray. I’d like to be able to make a series of joyful prayers often, but something about it just becomes too much for me to bear, and even one prayer tends to make me stressed. I don’t know if it’s that there’s guilt driving my prayers, that my prayers don’t feel sincere, or whatever it is that’s making my prayer life difficult. I have confidence that this is going to be resolved at some point in my future, but for now, I feel like I need God to help me know what to do about my prayers. Thanks in advance for all of the prayers; God bless you all!

Lord, please line every syllable of prayer from Ricky C with many graces for faith, hope, love, and joy. Instill in this faithful servant a zeal for the faith. Let not emotions govern this soul’s faith, but a sound conviction that retains shape even in the face of dryness. Send angels to guide and minister to this soul. Have mercy, Lord. Our Lady, angels, and saints, pray with us. Amen.

Some good quotes on prayer difficulty from the saints:*Blessed Angela of Foligno says that the prayer most acceptable to God is that which we force and constrain ourselves to say. Such is the prayer we turn to not for the pleasure found in it or because of our own inclination but purely to please God." (St. Francis de Sales, Introduction to the Devout Life)

As for my outer man, it too, since the spirit does not respond to it, is so besieged that it finds nothing to refresh it on the earth if it follow its human instinct. No comfort is left it save God, who works all this by love and very mercifully in satisfaction of His justice. To perceive this gives my outer man great peace and happiness, but happiness which neither lessens my pain nor weakens the siege. (St. Catherine of Genoa, Treatise on Purgatory, chap. 17)*

Praying the Holy Spirit will help you better your prayer life.

Praying for you…

  • O most beautiful Flower of Mount Carmel, Fruitful Vine, Splendor of Heaven, who brought forth the Son of God still remaining a Virgin, assist us in this necessity. O Star of the Sea, help us, and show us that you are our Mother.
O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and earth, we humbly ask you from the depths of our heart to help us in this necessity. There are none who can withstand your power. O show us that you are our Mother.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. Sweet Mother, we place this cause in your hands. Amen*

Praying for a fruitful prayer life for you
Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.
Amen.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

It’s not about YOU my dear, it’s the
Lord who courts us in prayer! we are
asked simply to COOPERATE with
His Spirit, when we pray, that way we
get into what psychologists call “flow”
where what we are doing comes natur-
ally!!!

Hail holy queen, Mother of mercy,
Our life, our sweetness and our hope,
to you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve,
to you do we lift up our sighs, mourning and weeping
in this Valley of Tears. Turn, then most gracious Advocate,
your eyes of mercy towards us and after this our exile,
show to us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus,
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
(Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that
we may be made worthy of the promises
of Christ.)
Amen.

Gracious and merciful Father, please come to their assistance.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.
