I have a co-worker whose a long since fallen away Catholic (Baptism and maybe First Communion, I think) who told me he’s getting a vasectomy. He knows I strive to be a devout Catholic, and I think he’s trying to get a reaction out of me, or something. He’s pretty cocky and a smart-alec, and very worldly. The way his family broke up when he was young, I can’t really blame him; he probably carries around a deep wound. Jesus forbids us to judge other’s souls.

Anyways, I’m reminded of the story Fr. Corapi always tells about a mother who came to him to ask him to visit her rebellious son. Fr. Corapi couldn’t get anything through to him, so he ended the conversation by telling the guy that he’d pray that “God kicks your butt!” That’s what I’m going to do for my co-worker (privately of course). Maybe you guys could do the same?

Thanks!

Joel - I absolutely love Fr. Corapi’s kick your butt prayer story. I’ll be more than happy to pray that one, and I’ll ask Mother Mary to help, too! 👍

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

When I think someone is trying to get a rise out of me, I stop what I am doing look at them and ask them point blank:

“Why are you telling me this?”

If they are playing “tick off the Catholic” I just move along. If I get the sense they are asking advice in a very roundabout way, we can talk more about it.

Praying for your intentions:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

God Bless
In Jesus through Mary
