Preemptively: donāt read into this too much as an attack on Sacred Tradition. There are a whole lot of other traditions that look pretty goofy from the outside.

God is written about in sacred scripture, but it does not say in the scripture that it is the sole authority. The scripture makes clear that God holds all authority.
"I believe in Sola Scriptura, because Jesus believed in Sola Scriptura. āIt is written!ā "

As a mathematician I would note the difference between necessary and sufficient in proofs. One may show that a certain condition is necessary for a hypothesis to be true, but find other conditions to obtain a sufficient proof. Jesus stated that Scripture is necessary, but nowhere does He state that it is sufficient.
Nor could He! Jesus was a Jew and Jews believe in Scripture and Tradition, Torah and Oral Torah. For them, Scripture and Tradition is the Word of God.

We were talking about the sufficiency of scriptureā¦thatās all! The comment was Jesus never said scripture was sufficient just necessary. In Matthew 4 Jesus obviously thinks scripture is sufficient enough to fight off Satan. If Jesus thinks soā¦so do I!
