For a lonely, suffering wife

I have a good friend who is experiencing some very troubling things in her marriage right now.

The two were married last summer, and they are expecting a baby girl in two months. Now her husband is young, but he’s not that young. Unfortunately, he is very immature and this is creating problems. He is very upset because he feels like he has “to be an adult,” by holding a job, handling different responsibilities, staying at home instead of staying at his friends’ places overnight, etc. You can tell he’s often trying to grow and mature, but he nevertheless has times where he does go over to friend’s places for the night or this or that - the biggest problem with this, of course, being that he’s leaving a 5, 6, 7 month pregnant wife at home.

Specifically, this request was prompted by what happened the past two days. My friend had had a doctor’s appointment for the baby scheduled for weeks or months, which the husband had said he’d go to (as you’d expect a husband to do). He later forgot about it (understandably) and made plans with his friends for that day. When she reminded him, he did cancel the plans (the right thing to do), but this had him so upset by the time they got home from the appointment that he went to his parent’s house (they are currently away) and told her he’s going to be staying there for a few days - leaving his pregnant wife home alone.

My friend is obviously suffering a great deal over this, and yet she is handling it in such a beautiful way, still thinking of him and how she can love him better in spite of his behavior. Please pray for the both of them at this time!

***O Glorious St. Joseph, thou who hast power to render possible even things which are considered impossible, come to our aid in our present trouble and distress. Take this important and difficult affair under thy particular protection, that it may end happily.

Take this married couple under your care. Intercede for this lonely wife and her unborn child, and intercede for her husband, so he may care for his family selflessly, as God intended.

O dear St. Joseph, all our confidence is in thee. Let it not be said that we would invoke thee in vain; and since thou art so powerful with Jesus and Mary, show that thy goodness equals thy power. Amen.

Lord it seems that this man doesn’t understand what marriage is, and went into marriage without knowing or being mature enough for marriage. I commend this man, and this young mother and her child into Your wisdom, protection, and love.

O St. Rita,

Make us understand that a vocation is not only a matter of attraction.

Enable us to see clearly that it is also a matter of finding, in ordinary events, God’s will for us and then accepting it even if it seems to be baffling and contrary to our wishes.

Teach those called to the marriage state by the Lord to reflect deeply on the delicate choice that will influence their destiny.

Let them not be deceived by their feelings; instead, let them look for the solid qualities that keep a home united in the joy of the Lord.

Teach unhappy spouses the power of patience and mildness. Let them not give way to discouragement but, like you, let them save both the happiness of their home and the soul of their spouse.
