I haven’t asked anyone to pray on my behalf, because I feel like there is so much more in the world that needs our prayers more than me, but I’m feeling a little bit hopeless tonight, and so I am going to ask this…

I’ve been unemployed for nearly a year. I lost my last job because of some unkindness of others, and it has been very hard for me to recover. My unemployment insurance benefits are running out, and I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’ve applied for a few good positions, and if you could offer a few prayers for me that one of them comes through - or that anything comes through - I would really appreciate it.

O Saint Joseph, we pray to you for those who are out of work, for those who want to earn their living or support their families.

You who are the patron of workers; grant that unemployment may vanish from our ranks; that all those who are ready to work may put their strength and abilities in serving their fellowmen and earn a just salary.

You are the patron of families; do not let those who have children to support and raise lack the necessary means. Have pity on our brothers and sisters held down in unemployment and poverty because of sickness or social disorders. Help our political leaders and captains of industry find new and just solutions. May each and every one have the joy of contributing, according to his abilities, to the common prosperity by an honorable livelihood. Grant that we may all share together in the abundant goods God has given us and that we may help underprivileged countries. Amen.

Dear Saint Joseph, you were yourself once faced with the responsibility of providing the necessities of life for Jesus and Mary. Look down with fatherly compassion upon me in my anxiety over my present inability to support my family. Please help me to find gainful employment very soon, so that this heavy burden of concern will be lifted from my heart and that I am soon able to provide for those whom God has entrusted to my care. Help us to guard against bitterness and discouragement, so that we may emerge from this trial spiritually enriched and with even greater blessings from God. Amen.
