For a student at my school who died

At 5:15 PM today, a freshman at my university got hit by a car crossing the street. My roommate just told me about it and said that she died. I just got back fro the gym and took the longer way back, so, I did not get to see any sign of an accident on the road. This is the secod student death this year. Weeks before school started, a rising senior took his own life. He was well loved and not a victim of any bullying or harassment. He had terrible OCD for many years and it was under control until it flared up the day he died.

Please pray for the repose of their souls and their families and for the safety of all students this school year. I walk around at night here and thank God that, for all its faults, at least the campus is safe. But, just last year, I saw one girl escorted out of my hall in handcuffs never to be seen again and a stranger snuck into my dorm and assaulted a girl. I am not sure if this is the norm or even better for college campuses (if this is below the norm, then I really don’t want to know what the norm is). Just pray for us all.

Update: We now know the name of the girl. She came here from China, whcih means she was likely her poor parents’ only child. She was riding her bicycle on the street when her bike made contact with the last curbside wheel of a cement truck and that caused her to roll under the truck. The police say that she likely underestimated the speed or length of the truck and that there is no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the truck driver. The driver actually lives in my home town. But, unfortunately, even though the guy did not do anything wrong, he is likely going to feel this for the rest of his life, another soul to pray for.

Bicycle accidents are a fairly common occurance here. My first day stepping on campus for a tour, the first thing I saw was a lady being loaded into an ambulance after a bike accident. We have a ton of cyclists, but, not a lot of bicycle lanes. Downtown, we cannot cycle on the sidewalk, but, there are usually no lanes and, if there are, they are on one-sided. And traffic is crazy, especially during rush hour when this girl got hit. So, until they fix this issue, which, they have been planning but postponing for a while, there will be more accidents. The University is even giving its own money to the city to build bike lanes, that is how concerned it is about this safety issue. So, pray for all of our safety please.
