Covenants are from god. God has said, I will be your God and you will be my people. God creates the whole of the covenant, he states what he will do, and he states what we will do. In an oath you must make promises and swear to those promises. And, that is not what covenants are. Moses asked God for the Torah and God gave the torah as a covenant. A covenant is like a binding gift from God.Can you then explain to me what a Covenant is?![]()
It amazes me too. So you think Baptism is not necessary. I provided you the verses and wonder why Jesus submitted to it, commanded it and the apostles directed it to be done.It always amazed me that one of the thieves on the cross next to Jesus was not Baptized, yet because of his faith,Jesus promised him Paradise. Luke23:39-43
I believe the is the law and the spirit of the law, so we see in this instance Baptism was not nessesary for Salvation, it was what was in the theifs heart.
I think fish is just a symbol to identify themselves as Christians. Now it is the cross that’s commonly used.Symbols of the Fish were use by early Christian to identify each other. The also use the Fish and the Stowl to let each other know they were going to meet for Mass in the Catacombs. I’ll try to get referances.![]()
Covenant, meaning a solemn contract, oath, or bond, is the customary word used to translate the Hebrew word berith (ברית, Tiberian Hebrew bərîṯ, Standard Hebrew bərit) as it is used in the Hebrew Bible, thus it is important to all Abrahamic religions. The equivalent word in the Septuagint and the New Testament is diatheke, see also Strong’s G1242.Can you then explain to me what a Covenant is?![]()
If someone recites the Nicene Creed, and believes in what he says, then he’s a Christian. What steps do you say a person must do to be called a Christian.
What about the Covenant oath in our judicial system? You telling me no Jewish people ever swoar " to tell the truth,so help me God" in the history of the U.S.? Read Genesis 21:22-24 Abimelech gets Abraham to swear a Covenant oath in the name of God. Sheba’ in Hebrew is attributed to the number 7 to seven oneself is Covenant Oath swearing. Catholic Church preforms Exorsisms the very word means to “Oath Out”./B]

As far as oaths, Friends do not swear oaths. We are to speak the truth at all times…making an oath to “tell the truth” implies that our words are not trustworthy unless one is under oath…Friends do not perform oaths.
Within our judicial system the right to “affirm” is an alternate to performing an oath.
I’m in agreement with you. A Covenant is only binding if their is an oath. God has swearn by his Holy name and we must swear by his Holy name. That is not a contract, but a Covenant. There is a exchange of persons. He is our God and we are his children. I contend there must be an oath by both parties, other wise it is a contract. For I Covenant to have power we must be involved too, it can’t be onesided.Covenant, meaning a solemn contract, oath, or bond, is the customary word used to translate the Hebrew word berith (ברית, Tiberian Hebrew bərîṯ, Standard Hebrew bərit) as it is used in the Hebrew Bible, thus it is important to all Abrahamic religions. In theology and Biblical studies, the word “covenant” principally refers to any of a number of solemn agreements made between God and the Israelites in the Hebrew Bible, as well as to the New Covenant, which some Christians consider to be the replacement or final fulfillment of these, see Supersessionism. Likewise, some Christians use the term “Old Covenant” to collectively refer to the covenants described in their “Old Testament”.
God’s covenants with the Israelites are foundational to the Torah, as well as to the Tanakh in general, and form the grounds for the claim that the Israelites are God’s “chosen people.” According to the terms of these covenants, the Israelites were told that they must worship God and obey his Commandments in order to receive spiritual and temporal blessing and avoid exposure to the effects of the curse. When the word “covenant” is used in this sense, the agreement is essentially unilateral, since while the covenant’s outworkings are dependent upon human response, its terms are dictated by God. By contrast, at many points in the Hebrew Scripture, human covenants are made - in such covenants, the terms are agreed upon mutually.
Circumcision is to be the permanent sign of this everlasting covenant with Abraham and his male descendants
The Noahic Covenant, found in Genesis 8-9, applies to the whole of humankind. In this covenant, God:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Covenant_(biblical)
- blesses Noah and his sons, and tells them to populate the earth (9:1)
- places all plants and animals under human command (9:2-3)
- forbids eating meat with the blood still in it (9:4)
- forbids murder (9:5)
- commands humankind to shed the blood of those who shed blood (9:6)
- promises that he will never again destroy all life on earth by flood (9:11)
- creates the rainbow as the sign of this covenant for all ages to come (9:12-17)
Read Ezekiel chapter 20 God swear oaths.Friends enter into contracts a persons name is good enough, signitureor handshake. A Covenant Oath is done in the name of God that he is our God, this should never be done lightly, they are about as different as Marriage and Prostitution. Marriage is not a contract it is an oath we enter into and through God we co-creat when we have children, there is an actual exchange of persons. A contatract is done with friends and has no real power, only our good name, like prostitution it is an exchange of goods and services based on peoples name.It is why God had to punish the Israelites at the golden calf. God dose not want to have to punish, we force him because he must keep his name Holy!As far as oaths, Friends do not swear oaths.
