Hello fellow NFP families.šŸ‘‹

I just wanted to share our NFP experiences thus far. We have 4 beautiful, wonderful children (and yes, we DO want more!). We have practiced NFP for our entire marriage, going on 7 years. During that time NFP has been a huge burden on us. Do we like NFP? Sure. But it still has had it’s hard times, for example breastfeeding times have been VERY difficult w/ regards to NFP. We do the Creighton method which involves making observations of cervical mucus (is it ā€˜peak type or non-peak type?’) Well while breastfeeding all my babies I would have mucous all day, everyday, we’re talking fertile type (peak) mucus. Now don’t get me wrong, we love kids and YES we are open to life but not too close together in order for me to keep my sanity, if you know what I mean.šŸ˜‰
I wasn’t really wanting to have to learn a whole new NFP methold and so forth. So we discovered about 6 years ago a fertility monitor that is sold for purposes of conceiving a baby. It was about $400 and only sold on the internet. We were a little leary of buying it at that time because A) the cost and B) it said ā€˜not to be used for avoiding pregnancy.’ Well I found out that the Marquette NFP method uses the Clear Blue Easy fertility monitor and from what I read on their site it stated that it too, was not to be used to avoid a pregnancy. In my opinion, they say that for legal purposes so that they don’t get sued or something of that nature if a baby were to be made that wasn’t expected to be. You get my drift, right? So a friend of mine bought this other one that I had found years ago online and was too chicken to buy. She was using it to avoid pregnancy and said I should just buy one. I was going to buy the clear blue one since it is sold in stores and it’s more ā€˜heard of’. But after seeing that it costs $150-200 plus the purchasing of monthly test strips you can forget it!!

So basically we broke down and bought this other one. It’s so awesome! Yes it was $400 but at the same time it will come out cheaper in the long run versus the clear blue easy one. NO purchasing of any type of add ons monthly, etc. I am done rambling for now but if you want to know the name of it, etc. feel free to PM me and I’d be glad to help!!! Like I said, we are very pleased w/ it thus far. It just breaks my heart when families (good, solid, Catholic families) have struggles w/ NFP and it really affects their marriage in a negative way. (4 weeks of abstinence at a time is not fun for anyone!) So there is hope out there if you are having trouble discerning fertile times from non-fertile times. Just wanted to share that w/ you all. šŸ˜‰

God Bless. šŸ™‚

I am sorry to hear that you were not able to use Creighton. I had the same problem while breastfeeding - constant peak-type mucus. We switched from sympto-thermal to Creighton and finally were able to manage my cycles. Did your instructor give you yellow stamps to help manage your cycles? Without the yellow stamps, we would have gone crazy.

I am glad that you found something that works.

Sherrie

PM me with the name PLEASE!!! Only 4 weeks abstinence at a time seems like heaven right about now!!! It’s been 2 years of post partum HELL. Things are finally starting to look more normal (but hubby’s out of town:() and we have talked about using a marquette type system and I’d love to know what you’re using!!!

Is it the Babycomp/Ladycomp?

Had one, loved it, used it throughout my marriage, would buy again in a heartbeat (if I was still married and able to conceive).

Best $500 I’ve ever spent I think…

I’m happy to hear you’ve found something that will supplement NFP! It’s always good to hear the positive sides of NFP!

**No, it’s not that one. You’re actually the first person that I’ve ā€˜met’ that had one of those. I’ve heard of them but never knew anyone who bought one. 🤷 **

Make that two!

Actually, I bought the Ladycomp for my newlywed (this past June) daughter. I thought it would be helpful, as they planned to use NFP but she is ADHD and very easily distracted. She figured she could use all the help she could get. So far so good. She wants to get grad school behind her before having - she hopes - LOTS of kiddies.

Good for her, Dixieagle! That’s awesome that you got that for her as a gift!! šŸ‘

What about the CCL method with cross-checking mucus and temperature? It’s taken us a few kids (we have 4 so far) to get everything straight, but it’s pretty darn scientific.

That being said… Please PM me with the name of the monitor you found!

Thanks!

Welllll, this is MUCH easier. 😃 I still make observations on my mucus but this is just a cross checker for us. I didn’t want to learn another NFP method after having invested so much time and energy (and tons of follow-up classes) into the Creighton method. 🤷

Sure! I’ll PM you the name of it. Wasn’t sure if I could post it on here for fear of being booted out of CAF land. šŸ˜‰

Hello,
I am new to the forum and this post caught my attention. We will have been married for 4 years next month and have two kids, 22 mo. apart. So i know EXACTLY what you mean! šŸ˜‰ We have never taken NFP classes and know we need to. A friend of mine just read a book and she learned from that alone. She let me borrow it but it seems more confusing than i think its supposed to be. I think I would do better if I had someone teach and show me.

Does anyone have advice on taking a ā€œhome courseā€ (like the couple to couple league offers) vs. taking classes?

The whole breastfeeding postpartum thing is confusing for us too. My son was 11 mo. old when I got my 1st period back. The next month i skipped one and didnt think anything of it, i just thought maybe they would be a little irregular at first. So when i was waiting for the next one (the third month) i was starting to get morning sickness and a test confirmed baby #2.

She is now 9 mo. old and I haven’t gotten a period back yet. We are just a little nervous because I have heard of some women getting pregnant again before their first period postpartum. Some friends of ours got pregnant with their 2nd baby WHILE they were taking NFP classes, and their first baby was only 3 mo. old! So she was born 2 weeks after thier sons 1st birthday.

My sister told me about a saliva ovulation microscope. Anyone familiar with it? you test you’re saliva every morning and when you are ovulating, it will look like fern crystals, and when you are not ovulating is will look like specks. So we got one (very inexpensive) but I’m just not sure how reliable it is because it says the same thing as the othersā€¦ā€œnot to avoid pregnancyā€ (i agree they put that for legal reasons). and i have been using if for a few months in hopes it will clue me in when i will have my first period but its been all over the place. Most days its specks but one day it will have a little fern and then another day it will have a ton of fern, or sometimes it will be only two days in a row of fern. so, if its telling me im ovulating sometimes then i should have gotten my period back but i havent so I dont know what to make of it.

So i was wondering if you could tell me more about the ovulation test you were talking about. Maybe that will be useful until we complete any NFP course. (I’m new the the forum so what does PM mean? to tell me the name of the monitor)

And again if anyone has advice on NFP classes vs. a ā€œhome courseā€ I’m all ears. šŸ‘

Thanks for listening to me ramble!

Mamacita–
I don’t think there’s a rule about not posting about products! Look at all the items we post about all the time w/name brands: strollers, car seats, fertility monitors, game systems, toys etc… Just post the name and info about the product for those who may need it! 😃

I think it would be ok too! I think what is not allowed is posting our own products and using CAF to solicit business… like those silly Nike shoe posts that show up all of the time!

Here it is! šŸ™‚ Looks cool.

zetek.net/ Ova Cue

Maybe it will help some couples strugglingn with NFP. That’s why I love the sympto-thermal method (I learned from CCLI)–more info is better, in my book!

I have the Ovacue, and I love love love it. We also use it as a cross-checker - we’ve been relying on CM as opposed to temps and CM (Elise slept awesome In The Beginning, and now that she’s discovered the world, sleeping is a thing of the past).

UntiltheEnd, the Ovacue is expensive, but worth it in my opinion. It comes with a saliva tester that you do first thing in the morning. You can also buy an optional vaginal sensor that you use in the evening to really p(name removed by moderator)oint ovulation. If I remember correctly, it measures electrolytes? We used STM and the Ovacue to conceive both of our kids (we love data). It shows you the level of fertility that it’s reading and can predict the ā€œmost fertileā€ days - although, I think it gets more accurate if you have the vag. sensor.

Also, PM = Private Message. If you click on a poster’s name, a menu pops down that says ā€œSend a private message to [user]ā€. You can do that if you want to discuss stuff without the entire world seeing it - kind of like an email between users without giving out actual email addresses. šŸ‘ I can send you more details about my experiences with the Ovacue if you want me to.

Mylo, so glad to find someone else who loves it!!! So how long have you been using it? I know it only has a one year warranty so I’m hoping it doesn’t break on me after a year. 🤷
The lady comp one I looked at and it has a 10 year warranty! WOW! However it doesn’t have the vaginal sensor w/ it which is what confirms the ovulation w/ the Ova Cue one.

Mamacita, I bought it in July 07. I used it July, August, September, October … then got pregnant (thanks, Ovacue!). We ended up miscarrying and I used the Ovacue to get pregnant again (yay!). Thanks to Elise’s sleeping shifts, everything came back at 11 weeks PP. So I’m back to using it.

I learned STM before we were married, and the Ovacue is right there with my charts. Only once has it been off - that was by a day - and only because the more fertile mucus wasn’t on the outside. If I had done a cervical check, I would have noticed the CM on the day the Ovacue said I O’d.

And you’re right, the vag sensor does confirm ovulation. I’ve never used it without the v.s., so I couldn’t remember what the instructions says it does without the sensor. Thanks for adding that (oh so important) detail. 😃

Wow… that’s so great you all have found those so useful! šŸ™‚

I’ve never used a fertility monitor… but I’m looking at starting an NFP support group at church, so this info is very much appreciated! THANKS! 😃
