:rotfl: Malia, that is hilarious!!

I should send this thread to Greg (who does have a CAF logon, but has yet to get sucked into the addictiveness of it). He may think we’re all a bit :whacky: but that’s okay! 😛

Oooh, OT, I see this is my 1000th post.

Hello fellow NFP families.👋

I just wanted to share our NFP experiences thus far. We have 4 beautiful, wonderful children (and yes, we DO want more!). We have practiced NFP for our entire marriage, going on 7 years. During that time NFP has been a huge burden on us. Do we like NFP? Sure. But it still has had it’s hard times, for example breastfeeding times have been VERY difficult w/ regards to NFP. We do the Creighton method which involves making observations of cervical mucus (is it ‘peak type or non-peak type?’) Well while breastfeeding all my babies I would have mucous all day, everyday, we’re talking fertile type (peak) mucus. Now don’t get me wrong, we love kids and YES we are open to life but not too close together in order for me to keep my sanity, if you know what I mean.😉
I wasn’t really wanting to have to learn a whole new NFP methold and so forth. So we discovered about 6 years ago a fertility monitor that is sold for purposes of conceiving a baby. It was about $400 and only sold on the internet. We were a little leary of buying it at that time because A) the cost and B) it said ‘not to be used for avoiding pregnancy.’ Well I found out that the Marquette NFP method uses the Clear Blue Easy fertility monitor and from what I read on their site it stated that it too, was not to be used to avoid a pregnancy. In my opinion, they say that for legal purposes so that they don’t get sued or something of that nature if a baby were to be made that wasn’t expected to be. You get my drift, right? So a friend of mine bought this other one that I had found years ago online and was too chicken to buy. She was using it to avoid pregnancy and said I should just buy one. I was going to buy the clear blue one since it is sold in stores and it’s more ‘heard of’. But after seeing that it costs $150-200 plus the purchasing of monthly test strips you can forget it!!

So basically we broke down and bought this other one. It’s so awesome! Yes it was $400 but at the same time it will come out cheaper in the long run versus the clear blue easy one. NO purchasing of any type of add ons monthly, etc. I am done rambling for now but if you want to know the name of it, etc. feel free to PM me and I’d be glad to help!!! Like I said, we are very pleased w/ it thus far. It just breaks my heart when families (good, solid, Catholic families) have struggles w/ NFP and it really affects their marriage in a negative way. (4 weeks of abstinence at a time is not fun for anyone!) So there is hope out there if you are having trouble discerning fertile times from non-fertile times. Just wanted to share that w/ you all. 😉

God Bless. 🙂
I am going to have to say, as the husband here that I am happy to have given my part of the “Christmas money” to purchase this. With all the struggles with “is it fertile mucus, is it not” “did she ovulate, did she not” this has helped out with that tremendeously. Husbands, if your wives practice NFP, this is an amazing gift to give them to help with that, an amazing cross check. And it will work out for your benefit in the long run 👍

Thanks for passing this info along for everyone. We think that it is worth the cost, it has been a blessing in our marriage, we pray that it can be in others as well.

Thanks for sharing this !

As someone who’s getting along with Billings, but… well, sometimes it IS scary to have to rely only on oneself (guess why I am expecting AF with anxiety ? Because I ought to have relied on my faint observations, but… we didn’t)…

my question is: is this monitor able to cover the post partum time?
I’m not pregnant yet (🤷 ), but from what I could read here and elsewhere, I feel a bit frightened that post partum period might be a hard NFP time. So I’d better collect information about that now, and might contemplate investing in it shortly before we decide on TTC so that I still have time to get confident with it.

And, my further question is: does it work when breastfeeding ?
thanks !

FG, I’m about 3 months (3.5?) postpartum and breastfeeding. I didn’t use the Ovacue during the lochia time, which was about 6 weeks for me. I also didn’t use it during my first cycle PP because I wasn’t exactly anticipating AF, hee hee. I did notice the super stretch mucus though, told Greg that I’d probably have AF in a couple of weeks, and I ended up being right.

This cycle I did use it, and when I had the super stretchy fertile mucus (well, as stretchy as one can get while breastfeeding); that’s when it said I ovulated. Actually, the Ovacue said “ovulation confirmed”, then the next day I got the stretchy mucus in massive amounts. If I had done an internal check, I would have gotten that mucus. I can’t tell by temps, but then again I had only been asleep for 2-3 hours before temping most days, so I don’t rely on them fully. The CM has changed back to just “there” (tacky, skimpy, etc), so I’m trusting the Ovacue and my CM that I ovulated. I also trust it because I used it pre-pregnancy and it was always saying I ovulated when I had the temperature shift and fertile mucus.

That’s my personal experience, though. HTH! 🙂

i condone you all for using natural methods !!! i love it and GOD has truly blessed us with the gift of knowing our bodies!!!
Regarding the peak type mucus, i had it constantly. It turns out that I had an inflammation of the cervix AND low progesterone levels. You learn to find the difference between truly peak type mucus and normal peak like type mucus. It worked for us for 6 years. Now, with God’s blessings, we are expecting number two…

Just to clarify… (and to resurrect this post!)

Can you start using the fertility monitors (for the first time) while you are breastfeeding, and have it accurately predict the onset of fertility (which can be so difficult to tell due to crazy, out of wack cycles)?

Do fertility monitors give you 4-5 days of warning regarding ovulation? (if I understand correctly, this is the ‘window’ of warning you need so you can abstain, in order to TTA)

Thanks ladies!

Well, it appears that different ones give varying results. For example, the watch one only gives 4 days. Where the ovacue gives up to 7 days advance notice.

**Yes, Hasikelee is right, the OvaCue one does give me 7 days notice, 7 days before I ovulate it will tell me “possibly fertile” meaning that ovulation could happen. So far it has been exact on p(name removed by moderator)ointing the day I ovulate in advance. 👍

It actually tells you before you ovulate (this is just an example), ‘peak fertility: day 13’. And it told me that on day 6 of my cycle. Well sure enuf, on day 12 I ovulated, it confirmed ovulation on the 12th and then on the 13th it said ‘highly fertile’, and on the 14th day it told me either ‘possibly’ or ‘highly’ I can’t remember…**

Hi! and what about the duration on the batteries?
Somewhwere I read they last 3 months.
Can we use rechargeable batteries, like those you use in the mp3 and then you cherge them again?
When the battery is getting low, can the measure be wrong (like a clock when the battery isn’t working well) and give us a register that is not true?
thank you!

**I have been having to change the battery monthly and I’ve been using Duracel brand. I would think rechargable batteries would work just fine.🤷 When the battery starts to get low, the screen will look dimmer than normal, or the monitor will also turn off sporadically. The readings I have found to be right in line w/ the others at that specific time in my cycle. Hope this helps! 👍 **

thank you Mamacita for your answer! 👍
I’ll take it into account
I can’t wait to have it! I think it will meke me much more confident in my registers and also it will help me to learn more about NFP
Bye! 😛

From what I have read, “boy” sperm swims faster and “girl” sperm lives longer. So, for a boy, have sex ONLY as close to ovulation as possible, the day of is best or within 24hours of ovulating.

For a girl, make love several days prior to suspected ovulation and then not again (otherwise the faster boys will get there first). Gives the boys time to die off:p and leaves the opportunity open for the longer living girls to reach their goal.

Haven’t had a chance to test this theory but hubby want a boy really bad so when we are ready to go for #2 I have a feeling hubby will be paying VERY close attention to my charts, lol.
I had 2 boys ( 2 separate pregnancies) - and we had intercourse on days 8 for one (very early) and day 9 for the other (also early). And, due to illness and travel, these were the only days for those particular months.

When couples ask about this - gender selection - I am always very careful to caution against it. It really sets the couple up for disappointment if they are truly “trying” for one sex or the other.

We really need to be thankful for the gift of the baby - and be so thankful, no matter what the sex.

Sorry - I just had to say that.😉
