For any Orthodox Converts: Why did you leave the Catholic Church for the Orthodox Church?

There may never be another Ecumenical Council after the first seven.
For some reason when I read your post, for a minute I thought you said “will never be another Ecumenical Council” – I was about to say whoa that’s a little presumptuous. (Insert emoticon with two red cheeks.)

But now that I’m properly reading it, yes I agree (leaving aside the obvious debate over how many there have been so far) that we don’t know whether there’ll be more ecumenical councils or not.

I’m not really clear what you mean by that. Are you’re saying this in response to the statement “I believe that an ecumenical council would be convened pretty much the same way that a local council is convened” ?
All the seven ecumenical councils were convened under the leadership of the Popes or the Emperors.

Now that Orthodox Churches rejected the authorities of the Pope and there are no Emperors, how will they convene an ecumenical council?

I’m not sure (I can’t predict the future). But for what it’s worth, I find your juxtaposition of Popes and Emperors just a little bit odd.

Wow! The Holy Spirit is now a play on words?!? Shame on you!!!
How arrogant! Did I ever say the Holy Spirit is a play of words? That is dishonesty!
There may never be another Ecumenical Council after the first seven. Seven were sufficient for the Church. So do not fret about it Stew. 👍
I am just following your line of thought that Orthodox Churches can convene Ecumenical Councils. What is wrong asking how these be done?

I don’t think it is necessary to predict the future to know the procedures.
But for what it’s worth, I find your juxtaposition of Popes and Emperors just a little bit odd.
No juxtaposition of Popes and Emperors. I do not have an idea why you say so.

w_stewart,

I think we (or I, anyhow) might get a better idea of what you are asking if you first explain to us how the Eastern Orthodox were able to hold the 1672 Council of Jerusalem.

I said that the council is convened by the powere of the Holy Spirit. There were seven councils. Period. There may never be another. You said it was a play on words. Shame on you!
What is wrong asking how these be done?
And I answered you. Now it may be best to let it be since you are getting all testy. 😦

Was it Ecumenical?

It is you who engage in a play of words to evade my question. It is you who get testy. If you cannot answer, just say so. I will not force you. You need not to misquote me to justify your evasion.

I see the Truth hurts. We pray the concept of invincible ignorance helps you and your brethren who can’t seem to even recognize one another. It would be better to educate yourself for your own sake. Just look at Russia.

“Whereas once I was blind, now I see”.
