Please note that at 12:00 noon St. Paul Church on Christian St. between 9th and 10th St. in South Philadelphia will have traditional Latin Masses on Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25, 2009 and New Year’s Day (the Octave of Christmas), Friday, January 1, 2010. The Mass on Christmas Day will be a Low Mass with choral music. The Mass on New Year’s Day will be a Low Mass with organ music followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

There is also a sung TLM offered at St. Paul every Sunday at 12:00 noon.

What about upper Bucks County?. Why no TLMs up there!?. Do I have to miss Mass again on Christmas for up teenth time.

No idea as to what goes on in Bucks County, but isn’t it on the railroad? Seems to me it is and having Mass at noon should make it (relatively) doable for those who have to travel. Better the trip to Philly than going without. 🙂
 
No. Better for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to make it more available. Even outside of the city limits. I already put over 400 miles a week driving to Philadelphia.

Having lived in the area, I have my thoughts as to why there aren’t any there. All I can prudently say is that Catholic parishes in the suburbs can tend to be of a certain mind set and that’s fine. I’m not going to knock that, even though my family and I have always been considered kind of like aliens living in the suburbs. So, it’s worth it for me to travel further for a more reverent OF or and EF. (Although, I have a church job, so I very rarely attend EF masses.)

Yes, it is unfortunate that the archdiocese does not provide more EF’s in various parishes, but it is also up to the priests in these parishes to provide and promote the EF mass. At least the Philadelphia chapter of the Latin Liturgy Association provides this information.

We don’t need to follow Pope Benedict’s XVIs’ example!. We do what the people want.
If that is the case, then I will be missing Mass again. The priests are brain washed by the “spirit of Vatican 2 hippies who run the parishes”. Why don’t they just become Protestant and get it over with!. They are so inspired by their practices.

To me, that is still not a reason to miss mass - if that is what I meant by my quote. There are many reasons for their mindset, but I don’t feel the need to share it, since I believe those who aren’t of that “suburban” mindset have their own various beliefs on the reasons. Also, a discussion like this is much better in person rather than on-line because, to me, one must be able to see the others’ facial expressions, body language, tone of voice to really know and understand what each is meant. Otherwise, a person on-line can easily be misconstrued and I didn’t create this particular thread for any kind of deep discussion. I was just spreading the word in case there were people in the area looking for an EF mass at Christmas. So far, we know that there are two. And I know there are a couple in South Jersey as well, just from some of my music colleagues.

Anyway, I’d rather travel far to attend mass than not go at all. I travel an hour one way to visit my parents and other family every week. I can do that for God as well. But I’m also a freelance musician, so I travel all the time, sometimes two to three hours one way, which I’m usually not compensated on. So, it’s not that big of a deal for me to go 45 minutes to an hour one way for a reverent OF or EF.

For some of us it is. Especially the amount of milage I put on my car every week for work alone.

This is why I wouldn’t judge anyone who would not find it worth while to travel far for mass. I can only act on how I personally believe and how my faith and spirituality leads me. I also now have to think of my little one and the example my husband and I are to give her. You are doing what you believe is right by your conscience and that is the best most of us can ask for. God bless you and have a blessed Advent and Christmas.

This is only a thread for info to those who were looking for an EF Christmas mass. It was not intended for debate or to vent frustration. A new thread can be made on the above quoted topic where those who are so inclined can answer, debate, vent, criticise, praise, etc. to their hearts desire. Thank you.
