I don’t know him well personally, he is the ex-boss of one of our RCIA Catechumans (well neophite now). Here’s as much of his story as I have.
He showed up in RCIA for Mystegogy, as someone to support one of our (former) catechumans as they start their own journey in the faith. She initially described him as a Catholic who was there to give her support as she didn’t have anyone else (apparently they have a very good relationship as he also let her go from her Job I guess).
Anyway, yesterday one of the RCIA team members, a prayer warrior, prodded him to share his story with us. It starts with the first Mystegogy session he went to, apparently he had been a lapsed Catholic who was fighting drug and alcohol addiction. He is divorced probably due to addiction, his ex-wife and childeren live in Colorado and apparently he doesn’t have much if any direct contact with them beyond phone calls. Durring the week between the 1st & 2nd mystegogy session he was on the phone with his 5 year old son, and his child told him
“Daddy someone said it would be better for the family if you just died”.
Durring his personal testamony he didn’t say who it was, but durring my private convo with him he related it was almost certainly his ex-mother in law. At first he tried to process this as “that person is really sick, and needs help”, but the comments stuck with him as no doubt they were intended to. He internalized it and gradulally came to the conclusion that indeed his family would be better if he were dead. He drank 1.5 liters of hard liqure that evening, I believe took 30 vicoden and was actually going to get another beer before “going to sleep” when it dawned no him, there is no way his childeren would be better off if he wasn’t present at all in their lives.
By the Grace of God alone, he managed to get him self to an ER. The doctors there told him if he was late by so much as a minute he would have died. Truely the Lord saved him. Despite his understanding now that the Lord needs him here (fortunetly our pastoral vicer was giving a talk on prayer that day, so Father Mike was able to tell him directly that the Lord loves him so much that he needs him here on earth still, and offered an ear 24/7). But I get a sense that he is still in a bad place, I’ve also offerend him my prayers and my email if he ever needs someone to talk to. But I think he needs a lot more prayer. If you could include him in your prayers, it would be greatly appriciated. If you could also include the Mother in Law, or whoever the individual who told his child such a horrific thing could be included in your prayers that would also be appriciated, they need prayer at least as much as Brian does as well.
Thanks prayer warriers and fellow Christians.
