Why then does the catholic church teach from a cannon instead of the full Gospel?
What is your source of information concerning Catholic Church teachings? Where do you get, “…the catholic church teach from a cannon instead of the full Gospel?”

The Catholic Church is the where the bible comes from. The scripture, espescially the New Testament was just an ungathered group of letters hat ws not standardized and scattered throughout the middle east and Mediterranean region. Each community used different letters and gospels. For instance, The letter to the Ephesians was used by the Ephesians, the letters to the Thessalonians were used by the Thessalonians, and so on.

The Bible became standardized at the Council of Rome in the year 382. The list of books became authorized in the years 393 & 397 by the Catholic Church.

Here’s a timeline…

These books, now made into the Bible, were altered by Martin Luther in the 1500’s because he disagreed with some particular teachings. Who the heck was he to do that? He had no authority to do it at all. None.

This is the truth. It happened this way.

The Church today teaches from the Bible. The Canons are derived from The Bible. The Catechism is derived from The Bible. All teachings in the Catholic Church have their origin in the Bible and the Apostle’s Traditions. the Churches authority derives from Jesus and His Apostles.

You have no foundation in saying that this is not true. None whatsoever.

To be honest, I’m greatly saddened by the great number of different Chistian groups out there. Jesus never intended this. He founded one Church and he gave that Church the authority to teach rightly. Therefore, whatever it teaches concerning faith and morals has to be true. I’m not sure what’s so hard to understand about that.

We hear a lot about relativism these days. To me, relativism can be quite synonymous with “denominationalism”. After all, how do so many churches get started? Someone in a church becomes convinced that the preacher is not right about something, so a movement is lead away from that church and another one is formed. Bascially the message is, “What is truth for you is not truth for me. I want the truth to be what I think it is”. Thus you have many different groups, all claiming to use the Bible as their rule of faith and claiming gudiance by the Holy Spirit, yet contradicting one another about the “truths” that are to be believed.

It breaks my heart that so many have been mislead by this over the past 500 years. They obviously have a deep and wonderful love for the Lord, but they are not able to experience all that God has ready for them.

I used to be O.K. with other christian groups…until I read this thread and the comments rtkiii made

😛

No…seriously…we are all brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus…I get aggrevated at the misconceptions and falsehoods that some protestants make up about My Church…that I love sooooo much…but that’s why I’m here…to learn how to defend

I feel sorry for Protestants. When they get to heaven they will find out all they missed out on by not being a part of the Church Jesus established. Especially the ones who are anti- Catholic - how terrible are they going to feel when then find out we were right all along?

Didn’t vote…did not like the options. Catholics have the fullness of the faith, our seperated brethern have a much more diluted faith…whenever someone doesn’t like something, a new denomination begins. Look at the number of protestant denominations. Sure they may get to heaven…many are ignorant. Sure God loves them.

“Favors” is a bad word for it. What I mean is that Catholicism is indeed more correct than Protestantism and other churches, and God draws a distinction between them.

🙂 we can stick out our tongues and say “i told you so”🙂 j/k, i love my Protestant friends, though I sincerely pray that even just one of them could learn to love the Catholic church like I do

…we are brothers and sisters in Christ, and God wants us to love them as we love ourselves…👍
And this I do every day as my partner is Seventh Day Adventist. Talk about being tested…oh my!

Because the cannon blows the h*ll out of its opposition.

Uh… Carol Marie… when Protestants (or for that matter, anyone else) get to heaven, do you think they’ll really care on what they missed out on? Being at the heavenly banquet in the Eternal Kingdom will probably make us forget about our life on earth.

I suspect we’ll all be a little surprised on matters of Truth when we get to heaven.

O+

**Is it me or do the last two choices in this poll mean the same thing? lol, It’s just that one sounds more friendlier than the other, but they both say the same thing.:hmmm: **

I voted yes for the option, “We are more correct than the non-Catholics in what we believe, and God favors us for it.” However, I was saddened that you did not have an option up there stating: “I believe we are more correct than non-Catholics, but they are still our brothers and sisters in Christ and that’s all that matters.” I DO believe that the Catholic Church is the fullness of truth but stating that we’re favored for having the gift of the fullness of truth in itself would be pride, which is forbidden by the Commandments.

I’ve learned a great deal from Protestants. The best English teacher I had was a practicing Lutheran. I just wish that we would talk charitably – not compromising the Truth, but remembering that Christ’s fondest wish was for us all to be one.
We just lead the horses to the water, and we should focus on doing that as compassionately as possible – let God worry about making them drink! 👍

I did not vote - did not like the multiple choice. I once had a Catholic Priest say in a retreat that when he was a young priest he used to put God into this little square, neat and tidy box called the Catholic Church. As he grew and matured he realized that he could no longer do that, yes, the Catholic Church was surely Christ’s Church but God was indeed bigger than even that. The bottom line, he said, is Jesus Christ.

Sometimes with all this picking apart of other denominations I can see the Lord shaking His head and saying, “They just don’t get it do they?”:nope:

Blessings,
Teelynn

I opted for the third item. In the eyes of God, we are all the same…sinners. He certainly prefers that we are in the right church where we can free ourselves from the bondage of sin for our salvation, that is - the church founded by Christ upon the Rock.
