Just curious;)

I have been reading alot of threads that just catholics are posting and I have seen some things written that are very negative toward protestants so I pose the question.

Im not accusing–just wondering. I figure since catholics accuse us(not all of us of course)protestants of being anti-catholic---------would you consider yourself anti-protestant?😦

No. 🙂

All, I know you thanked a couple of people for being ‘honest’ because they said they had anti feelings–but hopefully you’re also thanking the rest of us (who were also honest as well) for our responses, even if they weren’t what you might have expected!. Because except for telling Della she hadn’t answered your question, the only people you responded to were the ones who said they were anti! 🙂

She responded to me, and I professed no anti-Protestantism! 😃

I would qualify as someone who loves Protestant individuals. I am however anti-Protestantism.

In our world today these things need to be clarified. So let me do so. I do not consider myself anti-Protestant as I love every human being as we are all created in Gods image. I am also not anti-Protestant in the way that many anti-Catholics are anti-Catholic as I do not have the desire to slander the beliefs of Protestants as many on the other side tend to do (even driving them to just make history up as they go along). I am anti-Protestantism as I do not believe it is grounded in truth. Thus, I pray for the end of Protestantism and hope that those people who do not understand the full truth of Christ will come home where they belong.

Having said that, I understand why many Catholics are anti-Protestant. There are very few of us who have never been exposed to ignorance that masks itself as “evangelization”. Very few of us have not had the “pleasure” of being told what we believe and what our history is by funnymentalist Protestants (who usually have no clue what they are talking about) and being asked to defend every “sin” of every Catholic who has ever lived.

In my opinion in our day and age there are far greater reasons for Catholics to be anti-Protestant (especially in the US) than for Protestants to be anti-Catholic. I cannot think of Catholics who dedicate themselves to slandering or belittling Protestantism as many funnymentalist Protestants do. I would be ashamed if anyone who called himself a Catholic were to conduct himself in the manner that Dave Hunt or James White do.

Not really… I was a Protestant myself for a few years because of my marital situation… So I can see the goodness in it … but for me, the Catholic Church just kept calling me home in my heart… (and Jesus speaking through my daughter - asking me to take her to Catholic Church!) There’s so much comfort in the Catholic Church for me and always will be, and I guess I enjoy the structure and customs a lot more when all is said and done 🙂

But if I am to be perfectly honest, I do have to admit that I unfortunately hold a bit of resentment towards some of the other religions… and for me, this comes from the feeling of being ‘attacked’ with ridicule/criticisms of my faith and the Catholic Church by those I work with who aren’t polite enough to keep their non-constructive opinions to themselves… Please, do not take this the wrong way… The behavior of a few who know not what they speak doesn’t by any means reflect all 🙂 Just being honest for the sake of your question.

My wife happens to be a Protestant, but as a Catholic I do believe that Protestant denominations lack the fullness of truth found in the Catholic Church and I do believe certain Protestant concepts or interpretations are in error. That said, I do not personally engage in attacks or slander against Protestant beliefs the way the Catholic Church is often attacked by certain Protestant groups, however, I am opposed to heresy. If confronted by an anti-Catholic, I will defend the Faith. Not with anger or hostility, rather with patience, clarity and dignity.

:nope: No way! :nope:
Protestants are Christians too, just like Catholics. We all have the same goal in life: to one day be in Heaven with Christ. 😃
Our doctrines might not agree but I think as long as we can tolerate one another and accept one another for our differences (sorry, didn’t mean to sound like a hippie there :o ), we’d be stronger in the fight against the devil in this world, which is getting more and more evil by the day. 😦

Yes

I like individual protestants, there good people, most of them honest. Protestants are no better or worse than me and my fellow catholics. I admire those who seek to teach others about the lord, learn about the lord, and live by the lord. Certainly good things are due to be said.

But, protestantism is a heresy, so im against it. If thats anti, then I am anti.

There is one thing that I will say always bothers me… and I’m not trying to lump all non-catholic religions into one, so if it sounds that way, please understand it is not my intention…

I do have occasions where those of a more evangelical faith feel the need to quote scripture to me and tell me the many ways in which Catholicism is in their eyes, wrong… (Amongst the times I’m told we ‘worship’ Mary and the Saints, which is clearly untrue, as their is a clear difference between worship and devotion, but I won’t go on my soap box…)

What I find to be hypocritical in the way some non-catholics ‘interpret’ the bible and it’s meaning… is how the verses on judgment so easily and frequently seem to fall by the wayside. In my experience, Catholics judge non-catholics a great deal less than the reverse. We may know and believe that their is only one church, and may follow the law as it is written as opposed to the protestant denominations who allow more a liberal ‘translation’, and we may oppose many of the main beliefs of those who don’t follow our faith, but it seems to me… that we hold these differences against non-catholics a great deal less. There is a definite lack of tolerance towards us, when it is clearly against God and Scripture and all that it stands for. As stated by someone earlier, we don’t use the Scripture and our religion as weapons against non-followers, but this does seem to be a very acceptable practice amongst other religions towards us. And in this sense, yes, I will say I am against Protestantism. Because Judgment to me, is in the hands of Our Father, and no one else. And in loving one another, we are honoring him.

I’m not anti-protestant. After all, we share so much in common. How can I be against what we agree on. On the other hand I’m not for protestantism either. I dislike religious division.

What I’m really against though is prejudice (pre-judging) in both Catholics and Protestants for one another. When I speak of prejudice, I’m speaking about how assumptions and judgements are made before acquiring factual information.

I am grateful that this forum exists to enlighten each other with our knowledge and experiences. But we also have to remember to do so in ways that Jesus would approve of.

I will admit to being anti-protestant with only a few people in mind. And those people have attacked me for the past five years, to the point of causing division in my marriage (long story short- it’s his anti-Catholic family doing the attacking). Anyway… I am against the theology of Protestantism. I’m also against the Catholics that are liberal in their own thinking of what a true Catholic is because they choose to believe/promote what THEY think the Church means on certain subjects. (like my pro-abortion, pro-contraception mother being a EME at Mass-- I think that kills me more than my anti-Catholic Protestant inlaws).

Overall, I don’t have a problem with Protestants as long as they can show me the same respect I afford them. As soon as they start attacking, whether it be subtle with that Southern Belle charming smile with the knife in my back… the gloves come off and I start swing faster and harder than they expect. I don’t do well with subtle stupidity and when they can present a better argument than they 500-600 year old arguments that are always being given as a basis for their belief, I get annoyed. Especially if it’s one they’ve been attacking me with for five years.

Hi Tantum,
I am so sorry for leaving you out.:o I apologize. Of course I thank you ALL and am grateful that those who answered that they are not anti- protestant are not.👍

Thank you ALL for your fantastic responses. SEE WE WOULD ALL GET ALONG:thumbsup: 😃
Now I sound like a hippie;)

As an evangelical born again christian, I understand all you guys are saying. I dont know why people who believe the same as me speak so nasty to and about catholics:confused:
(Although Ive said this before–most of them were raised catholic, well the ones I know anyway)
As you know by my threads Im not one of them. I believe in following Christ’s greatest command to Love God and my neighbor’s. It can be hard but I willfully obey.😃 Of course, though, like you guys have said as well, I will defend my faith but with kindness, respect and patience.😃

I have actually defended catholics to other catholics. Im at my gym alot and most people there are catholic and they say some pretty of the wall stuff so I correct them. I seem to know more then them thanks to you guys.👍

You guys are great!!!—Thank you!!!

ALLFORHIM, you aren’t Anti-Catholic but there are some Protestant here who admit they are Anti-Catholic. I can name one who confess that he is. I won’t give out a name.

I am not Anti-Protestant toward the individual. However, I am against Protestantism theology. The doctrine of Scriptura Alone and Faith Alone is not part of the deposit of faith which the Apostles taught us, nor it is pass down by their successions.

There are so many Protestant Churches that teaches varies beliefs. One allow baptism as necessary while others don’t. Another claim it is symbolic, while another Church say it is real presence. Some permit abortions, while others don’t.

Protestantism promotes division amongst Christians and goes against Jesus’ prayer that they “all will be One, as the Father and I are One.”

The Catholic Church however teaches no doctrine that is different. It’s teachings is Apostolic. It has a centralize authority, the Magisterium in union with the Pope. Any Catholic bishop who disagree are often execommunicated, or become schismatic, so their unity with the CC is not unified.

How about lay Catholic who disagree with the Church teachings? The CC cannot be united. Well, these disobedient Catholic are going against the teachings of Christ. Jesus himself told the Apostles, “He who hears you, hears me, he who rejects me rejects the one who sent me.”

They put themselves in judgement by God by disagreeing with the Catholic Church. Woe to them, they ought to be re-catechize and learn why we must believe the teachings authority of the Church.

I often told both Non-Catholic Christians and Caferia Catholics this. "If you do not recognize the authority of the Church, then you reject Jesus Christ himself. In the Book of Acts, Jesus confronted Saul when he was still persecuting the Church.
Book of Acts:
I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me,
‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’
I replied, ‘Who are you, sir?’
And he said to me,
‘I am Jesus the Nazorean whom you are persecuting.’
My companions saw the light

I am anti-Protestant, but only to those that willingly teach misinformation, misunderstanding, and lies about the Catholic Church.

I cannot abide with people that twist and warp what Jesus taught and commanded and instituted.

It would the totally hilarious Anglicans reunited with the Catholic Church. The bigoted old Anglicans in my family would probably fall to pieces.

So, in as far as Protestants are bigoted anti-Catholics, then, yes, I anti-Protestant.

Also, I am anti- Protestant when it comes to groups like Campus Crusade that go around telling young Catholics that they aren’t even Christian.

Good point and they do tend to twist the Scripture. They only have partial truths.

I rather have the fulness of truth, which is founded in Jesus Christ ONE TRUE Church. The Catholic Church.

Hi Manny,

Could you please refrain from making comments like this. I know you dont think so but it is being disrespectful to me seeing as I am a protestant .😃

Please all of you remember that a protestant(ME:D ) started the thread so please maintain charity , kindness and peace.

I really dont want to see this turn into a free for all protestant bashing thread.

Thanks:thumbsup:
I hope I was not bashing…if you took it as bashing, then please accept my apologies.
