I hope I was not bashing…if you took it as bashing, then please accept my apologies.
No No I have been able to handle all so far except the one comment.

I just think if the catholics here start agreeing on negative comments together it will turn into what I said above.

You know how gang mentality is.😦

My mom gave me the impression that she was anti-protestant. I hope I corrected that in my life!

No. The pastor of our nursing home is Methodist and I got a smile when he advertised in our church bulletin for an organist for services held at the nursing home!🙂

Hi Manny,

Could you please refrain from making comments like this. I know you dont think so but it is being disrespectful to me seeing as I am a protestant .😃

Please all of you remember that a protestant(ME:D ) started the thread so please maintain charity , kindness and peace.

I really dont want to see this turn into a free for all protestant bashing thread.

Thanks:thumbsup:
As you wish.

A test as to whether or not one is truly anti-Protestant is to sit back and imagine if somehow Roman Catholicism became the state religion and it was now prohibited by law not to be Catholic. Would you then personally persecute or turn in Protestants to the authorities? Would you personally take advantage of the law and persecute Protestants in any way? Would you consider the persecution of Protestants just?

Many on this thread have voiced their personal distaste for “Protestantism,” so wouldn’t such a civil situation conveniently supply you with the power to finally rid the RCC of this annoying menace? And based on the comments placed on this thread I think the thrust of the persecution would first be launched at what you call Protestant “fundamentalists,” Evangelicals" known here as “funnymentalists.” A name which subtely promotes, inwardly, anti-Protestant sentiments.

Of course the question could be reversed, as well. But, personally I think the term “anti-Catholic” is used far too loosely by Catholics today. It is one thing to earnestly debate doctrinal differences, yet quite another to promote hatred toward one’s opponent.

A simple point of clarification to the comment regarding the greatest commandment from Christ. Jesus gave us one, and only one commandment. It is in the Gospel of John 15:12 that we are to love one another as Jesus has loved us.🙂

figure since catholics accuse us(not all of us of course)protestants of being anti-catholic---------would you consider yourself anti-protestant?😦
Heck no. We are all one in Christ, even if we have had some unfortunate divisions and misunderstandings. What is important is that we love, follow and serve the Lord.

I think folks in this forum tend to be a little more combative than most Catholics because these forums are attached to an apologetics website and it attracts folks who are more conservative and more feisty about their Catholic faith than your average papist. 😉

Just curious;)

I have been reading alot of threads that just catholics are posting and I have seen some things written that are very negative toward protestants so I pose the question.

Im not accusing–just wondering. I figure since catholics accuse us(not all of us of course)protestants of being anti-catholic---------would you consider yourself anti-protestant?😦
No. I believe Protestants who have been baptized are my brothers and sisters in the faith. I disagree with some of their teachings – that’s why I’m Catholic, but I believe they are on the one road to heaven in a very real way. I even believe that Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Jews, Muslims, etc. are on the road as well as long as they are truly seeking to follow God. Their eventual salvation will come about through the ministry of the Church Jesus started – the Catholic Church.

No, if you mean, do I consider myself to have negative ‘feelings’ towards individual Protestants. After all, my best friend is Protestant!

But am I ‘indifferent’ to Protestantism? No. I consider that while various Protestant groups (and this is a subtle but distinct difference from any Protestant person) may have some of the truth, they lack the fullness of truth which is found in the Catholic Church (and again this is a subtle but distinct difference from any Catholic person).

IOW, you, All, may be closer to God’s teachings in your knowledge and earthly life, than I, a Catholic. But Protestant Christianity is ‘farther’ from Christ’s teachings, lacking fullness, than is Catholic Christianity.

Do I wish that Protestantism did not exist? Only in that Christ’s desire for unity would have us all be part of the one, holy, Catholic/catholic apostolic church.

So I am not negatively inclined toward any person, and my feelings towards the teachings are only that I wish that they embraced the Catholic fullness so that we would all be one.

I don’t think that’s anti. 🙂
What he said. 😉

I do not concider myself to be anti-protestant. Some of the people I most admire are protestants. I have had some of the best Christian witness come from protestants.

No. While IMO, I think the Catholic Church is closer to what God had in mind, I don’t think that makes the Protestant Churches wrong in God’s eyes. When the bashing begins, I’m usually a defender of the Protestant denominations.

Much of the sentiments expressed here are exactly as I feel. I wish for all my seperated brethern to be reunited with the universal church that Christ established. I think there will come a time when some (not all) Protestants that believe that Catholics aren’t Christian, will have to come to the realization that we are Christian and we will all need to work together to defeat evil. If all Christians and Jews united together against satan… he would be so utterly defeated, I believe we would see some tail wagging behind as he retreated. I feel much the same about our older brothers and sisters of the Jewish faith too. As they were God’s chosen people of the old covenant, we must help them to see that Christ has come and established a new covenant as well. All of us are called to be children of the Father, and as such, we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. I want the whole big happy family!!!

I’m against many Protestant beliefs and practices, but I wouldn’t say I’m against the people themselves.

Also in the context of how we say “anti-Catholic” this means that the person is against a strawman version of Catholicism and is too stubborn to look at Catholics’ beliefs objectively. Sadly this is often the case, but not all Protestants are what you would call anti-Catholic.

What he said.
🙂 She, E.E.N.S., but thank you.

You know, they ought to have little male and female smilies for those of us with more ‘neuter’ type names.

Oh, sorry 'bout that! :o

(I agree with you about the male/female smilies, as I have also been refered to as a “she” when in fact I am a he.)

You know what? The problem is this; When a Catholic complains about anti-Catholicism, he is (generally) speaking about the Lorrain Boettners and James Whites of the world (and their adherants) - people who go about bashing Catholicism, especially those who use baseless and unfounded “proofs” without checking their validity. Those who continue to confuse the public about God’s Church in Heaven and on earth.

If this is what it means to be “anti”, then I would presume you would find very few, on this site and in the world, anti-protestants.

Hey maybe we can ask the forums to add something like this. I have seen it on other forums.👍

That’s exactly what I meant as well.
