For confidence, assertiveness at work and elsewhere

Please pray that God watches over me closely, helping me to be assertive and maintain my composure, confidence and resolve with a difficult and very unpleasant coworker. I’m very smart, very pleasant and well qualified. But I’ve been terrified to stand up for myself or displease anyone. So, I try to please people who are mean or disrespectful to me and who I don’t even respect, just to avoid confrontation. But the people remain disrespectful to me and then I feel ashamed for not being confident and standing up for myself.

I want to stop running away from challenges and unpleasant/difficult situations I know I can handle, but am afraid to. I lower myself and accept unacceptable treatment and behavior to avoid tension and stress at all costs.

Please pray that it is a pleasant evening for me and that I conquer my fears and change my habit of accepting bad behavior.

Finally, please pray to God to bless me with a rewarding job that I really enjoy, earn a great salary, and where I use my talents. (When the time is right, according to God’s plans for me.)

Everyone, the prayers worked. Thank you so much. I was able to have the courage to try one more time to resolve issues with the unpleasant coworker, and I was successful. Besides that, I felt as though I was being helped and protected by God – and still do. :angel1:
 
Glad this has worked for you. Its difficult when people deliberately try to provoke you and attempt to get you into a fight of some sort. Often it is difficult to respond to blatant rudeness or provocation in a way that is not going to spur on some sort of fight. If people are obviously rude, it is hard to see how just being ‘assertive’ with them is going to placate them/make them calm down or respect your point of view or your rights. If there is no respect in the first place? I have found that confrontation with certain people only engenders more hostility and further confrontation. When there is a lot of it from people, you simply can’t go around ‘confronting’ everyone who wants to take a piece out of you. Good for you that you only have one difficult person to deal with, and that you have managed this. 👍
