I have been salivating at amazon.com over some books/journals. I picked up Letter and Spirit: From Written Text to Living Word from the library and liked it very much. I noticed also the theology journal with a similar title (Letter and Spirit, Vol 3) and wondered if there was particular significance in the similar titles. It looks like they are similar in content but not the same. Anybody read both and care to comment on them? I guess my real question is, should I (a bit of a cheapskate who is disappointed at not finding any volume of the journal thru the library) buy the journal too?

As you know from reading the book “Letter And Spirit,” it is concerned primarily with how the primary place where we hear and learn the Scriptures is in the liturgy.

The journals, OTOH, are composed of seperate articles, mostly by several writers and varying in levels of scholarly depth (some are harder to read than others) based around a common theme for that issue of the journal.

I have only read the first one, and it was pretty tough reading in some places, but I’ve been thinking I’m probably now up for the challenge of tackling the next one.
