Everybody makes stupid decisions once in a while, due to an impulsive tongue or an impulsive action. I’ve decided to make this thread for everyone who made stupid decisions in the past that they ended up regretting, and are still having a hard time getting over it. (Myself included.)

Making mistakes is part of being human; the deed may have already been done, yet the regret may linger for a longer time… the question begs, what if I didn’t do it? Have you ever found yourself in this situation before? I can recall all those times I made stupid decisions that it just drowns me in regret… I have made many stupid decisions in my life that I wish I could take back.

What can we do but to move forward? Let us pray and beg God to restore all the lost time, money, opportunities, broken relationships that were a result of stupid, impulsive decisions.

Join me in prayer… Let’s pray for each other’s restoration, and for the virtue of prudence in order not to make any more stupid decisions in the future. Most importantly, let us pray for the grace to move on and learn from our mistakes.

Thanks for this thread. I feel the same. I doubt I am the only one. I think it is good to recognize some of our problems are self inflicted.

Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, in particular (Str84ward’s prayer intentions), and that I may bless God with you and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise you, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. I don’t think that there is an adult anywhere who wouldn’t LOVE to turn back the clock and go back in time to prevent any dumb and foolish decisions we made throughout our lives!

I could probably fill several hundreds of thousands of notebooks with all of the times I look back on my life sadly and say:

I wish I hadn’t talked to her that way; I wish I hadn’t mistreated them; I wish I had been more compassionate toward him; I wish that I had known how that decision would have affected others around me before I decided to go through with it; and of course, the old adage “If I knew then what I know NOW.”

Hindsight is 20/20, as the cliche says. The one thing I DO take comfort in is knowing that as a human being, EVERYBODY struggles with this from time to time, and NOBODY has a monopoly on making decisions that are just bad and dumb. However, I also take it as an opportunity to remind myself that THIS IS PRECISELY THE REASON WHY we should not pass judgment on anybody else! For every time I have been wronged, I’m sure at minimum that there is an equal number of times that I myself have wronged someone else. So let us remember:

St. Peter wished that he would NOT have denied Jesus three times before the cock crowed!

St. Paul wished that he had not assisted so many of our Lord’s followers into martyrdom!

David wished that he hadn’t allowed himself to fall in with Bathsheba.

And yet all of three of the men that I mentioned above eventually entered into glory DESPITE making STUPID HORRIBLE DUMB DECISIONS! Is that not a testament to the LOVE that our God has for us?🙂

Prayers for us all! Guilty of more than one ‘stupid’ self-inflicted damaging decision. This will be my intention for my evening rosary.

Wow! What timing. This is something I’ve been struggling with.
But, of the ones I regret the most, God has shown me that he has worked it out for good. Although I imperfectly made some decisions, I tried to err on the side of doing the right thing most of the time. Clumsy, and awful in practice and sometimes outcome. So, although I’ve suffered regret, I was gifted a glimpse of how well things turned out anyway, in spite of my ‘mistakes’.

Doesn’t change the fact that I still would like to have done things better. :o

Fr. Ripperger has something to say about it on a video on youtube under ‘Mortification’. That we shouldn’t expect to be perfect or to do right always. We tend to mess and muck things up and we can just take it to God and tell him we’re a mess. He says it better than I am.
