For Getting Out of an Abusive Situation

I am currently trying to escape a physically, verbally, and mentally abusive situation w my father. He has always had issues but in recent months they have increased dramatically and I am becoming very afraid. I have an appointment to apply for an apartment tomorrow morning, please pray that I am approved. I am nervous because I am only 18 and do not have credit established yet, but I’m hoping that I can offer more for a security deposit or that they’d accept a cosigner. I am very nervous because there is a lot riding on this and I haven’t been able to find any other apartment that I could afford. This would change my life so much for the better. Thank you in advance for your help. ❤️
 
Sending prayers. For whatever reason the apartment doesn’t work out, you could find another girl who needs a roommate or if it’s not too late enroll in college and get a dorm room. There also may be a place run by religious sisters where young ladies have room and board in exchange for chores and reduced rent.

Ideas which you don’t have to follow, but they are just thoughts:

Consider becoming a novice at a religious order. You never know; it just might be what God wants you to do.

Consider joining the military. Maybe the Air Force.

If you know any good young men, maybe you could get married.

IF you have any relatives, perhaps they could let you stay with them if you don’t get the apartment.

College dorms are a good start. It may work if you want to go to college.

Thing is, right now you are in a turmoil over your present living conditions, but you may want to look at things objectively.
 
If you are 18 years old, you are legally an adult. If he lays a hand on you, that’s battery, or worse. Call your local police department. They can connect you with community resources, including emergency assistance and directions on how to get a restraining order/no contact order through the courts. Be of good courage. We have your back with prayer.

Don’t advise someone to join a religious community that does or does not have a vocation.
Joining the military or a convent out of desperation may not have good results. The same with marriage.
Relatives-perhaps, but may still be in harms way.
College and dorms-maybe, if the person can get in, depending on qualifications.
We don’t rally know the situation or how to give advise here. Speak to a priest and prayers-absolutely. Financial assist. if anyone can give it. Peace.

I just thought that maybe you could go to a shelter for battered women. Most of the time they go there because their husbands beat them. It is only temporary. In your case, it is your father who is the problem.

Maybe you could check into adult protective services. They help vulnerable adults. They also help the elderly who are many times abused. If I suspected abuse be assured I would definitely report it. Maybe the St. Vincent De Paul Society could help you find the help you need. Catholic Charities may have some ideas.
