From Abraham to David God has always led the Jews through wars and finally reach the promised land of Israel. It seems as though God always had true leaders whom most if not all believed in and when the prophisied victory or defeat it always came true. But since then they have been defeated and scattered. Now orthodox (the strict observant ones)still believe that the HS speaks through these people however over the passed 2 millineu there has been more and more Jews becoming less orthodox until today there is just a small fraction left.It would seem that less Jews actually believe these true orthodox Jewish leaders to be truely led by the HS.There has been no prophecies(of victories,or things to come which have taken place)for over 2,300 plus yrs. While do you believe God has been silent for so long?We know that Jews still refer to OT about certain things to come but there hasn’t been any concrete occurences that have happened that have been predicted.

The ancient Romans could not fathom how, if the God of the Jews was the one almighty God, the Jews had fallen under Rome’s power.

The Roman Empire has long since crumbled to dust. All the other nations and peoples of the Roman empire are no more. Only the Jews remain. It is seemingly impossible that they of all the world’s ancient peoples have survived, but they have. Even more remarkable, that they have survived despite the animosity against them, through centuries of adversity aimed to make them victims for their stubborn insistence to continue to remain being Jews.

The Jews had only themselves and their eternal covenant with God. The Jews survived.

They are no longer a vassal state but have regained sovereignty over their homeland. This too is a seeming impossibility. They regained their independence a mere three years after one third of the Jewish people were destroyed in the genocide of the Shoah. They regained their independence despite being immediately attacked by the armies of five nations. In both cases the world stood by and watched. When Hitler rose to power the world shut their borders to the Jews leaving the Jews to his murderous wrath. During World war II not one country could spare one bomb on even one mission to put Auschwitz out of commission for even a single day. When the Jewish state was attacked not one country sent one soldier to help the survivors of Auschwitz. Instead they imposed arms embargos to prevent the Jews from defending themselves.

The Jews had only themselves and their eternal covenant with God.The Jewish nation was not extinguished forever in the ashes of the Shoah, the Jews won their war of re independence.

That the Jewish state survives today is also a seeming impossibility. It sits on a mere one per cent of the land of the middle east, in an area roughly the size of the state of New Jersey, surrounded by a billion enemies. It could not possibly survive but it does. Despite its precarious position it is seemingly so strong as to be deemed an “aggressor” by those who wish it ill.

The Jews make up a mere one quarter of one per cent of the world’s population. The have only been allowed to integrate within general western society in the last two hundred years. So small in numbers it is a seeming impossibility that Jews should be even seen or felt. However, despite their minuscule numbers their contributions to society are so vast that their enemies accuse them of “controlling the world”.

The ancient Romans could not fathom the God of the Jews. Today, their descendants cannot look at the Jew and not believe in God.

i see what your saying.Because of their longevity God is must still be with His people and wants them to survive. To me it doesn’t seem so miraculous that they survived.I know and understand why you would think this so.I know that the Jews still remain because of their belief in the covenant which holds them together and you do thank you for your views.

Beautifully stated! Israel is indeed the suffering servant and priestly people of G-d, whose miraculous existence, longevity, and destiny are intertwined with the ultimate destiny of humankind.

I do see it miraculous and God’s will that the Jews have survived.

However, you are wrong about the ancient Romans. While the emperors prior to Constantine did believe the Jews had been abandoned by their God. Constantine believed the Jews were “blind in soul” and had their own God murdered and then went mad (probably implying the revolt). (this is written in his letter to the Churches following the Council of Nicea).

Additionally, I would also like to point out that the Catholic Church is the only one that truly remains. The Jews no longer have Priests making sacrifices, the Catholic Church does. The Rabbis no longer have the S’mikhah, an unbroken line of succession through the laying on of hands from Moses. The Catholic Priests still have their apostolic succession. The Catholic Church is the longest enduring governing organization in history. The Jews no longer have “the holder of the Keys” and father to the Inhabitants of Israel. The Catholic Church does in the Pope. The Catholic Church is the only religion in the world with its own country. I could go on endlessly. The Catholic Church has existed for nearly 2,000 years. Second place goes to some European government (maybe the Swiss) and they are only about 500 or 600 years old. The fact that the Catholic Church, an organization that has endured so may problems, is still around is truly a miracle.

Which is said must be established by God.

To OP; My religion is Catholic, but I practiced Judaism and am Jewish in descent
This was predicted back in the OT then, that the Jews would lose the promised land and then it would finally be restored to the Jews(which we understand as today’s modern state of Isreal)So the Jews bellieve Yahweh God restored it for them.

Its an Orthodox belief that it will be God himself who will restore Israel. Not through the works of Herzl. How could God create Israel through Herzl, creating a secular state that does not follow the Torah? An Orthodox Jew will tell you. The current state of Israel is not the one God will create.
However, even as far back as talmudic times, many have opposed the concept of aliya on grounds that it interferes with the fulfillment of biblical prophecy. Jeremiah said, “They [Israel, the defeated nation] shall be carried to Babylon and shall remain there [in the Diaspora] until the day I [G-d] remember them” (Jeremiah 27:22). To Rabbi Judah this meant, “Whoever goes up [returns] from Babylon [the Diaspora] to Israel transgresses the positive commandment of the Torah” (Ketubot 111a). G-d must be the instrument through which Jews will return to Israel.
jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/Living_Israel.html

And here is what that is speaking about from the Talmud;
Ketubot 111a-b
Based on passages in Shir ha-Shirim (2:7, 3:5, 8:4), Rabbi Yossi ben Rabbi Hanina understands that there are three oaths that bind the Jewish people in their relationship with the non-Jewish world:
  1. That the Jews should not return to the Land of Israel be-homah – “like a wall”
  1. That the Jews should not rebel against the nations of the world
  1. That the nations of the world should not oppress the Jewish people overmuch.
This shows that for the longest time the belief that it will be God who will return the Jews to Israel, most likely through the Messiah. The majority have rebelled. Though I can understand why. They got fed up with Anti-Semitism. But the formation was not done through God’s messiah.

From what I bolded. That is why I converted. Not to mention God warned that he will take his covenant away if the law is not followed. Why then would he take so much away, destroying Judaism?

There has been no signs of any authenticity and truth in Judaism. Though do not be offended, please I mean no offense to the Jewish people. You still follow all of the laws that you can…well the Orthodox do. And you still hold a treasure of knowledge that I appreciate and am in debt of being learned of from practicing Judaism. Its just, Judaism has a lack of spirit.

I never herd of this belief that the HS, in thinking you mean Holy Spirit, but the prophetic spirit residing and speaking though the Jewish people. I have herd though, from Maimonides and other knowledgeable that the prophetic spirit is gone and will not return, or return at the Messianic era.

Not all Orthodox Jews think of the restoration of the state of Israel as premature, even if they are not so enchanted by a predominantly secular state. In fact, most Traditional and Modern Orthodox Jews are not opposed to the modern state, and even among Chasidic Jews, except for the Satmar, most divisions are not vehemently opposed to Zionism. The Haredi Litvish, on the other hand, are a different story. If you studied Judaism, you should know that Jews are hardly uniform in their beliefs about anything, including basic doctrines.

Yes I do know there is not unified belief. That everything is dependent on what sect but also depends on the individual you talk to. I know Chabad sect, over all supports the modern day Israel state, but I believe this is wrong. It goes against scripture and is a sin to support such ways on the Holy Land. Where they allow even gay pride parades in Jerusalem. And they go against what the Talmud says. Its plain and simple, the Talmud and Tanach says that it is God who will bring Israel back to the land. The works of Herzel is anything but Godly.

I find the title of this thread to be bigoted.
Yes, Catholic Answers Live often have episodes called “For non-Catholics only.” The host even even openly admits they are discriminating against Catholics. I can’t stand that.😃

There has been a resurgence of interest in Orthodox Judaism among young Jews in the past twenty years. So it is not necessarily the case that orthodoxy is diminishing. In fact, Reform Judaism is the branch of Judaism that has currently been dwindling in numbers. Apart from this, however, the ability to be patient with G-d is a matter of faith. We humans are, by nature, impatient, rather self-centered creatures, wanting immediate, instant gratification wherever we may be able to obtain it. We are too often almost demanding of G-d to change our lives according to our own will and time table rather than His. We seem to need miracles on a grand scale in order to believe, even though our own prophets of yore, including Moses, warned us not to believe on the basis of miracles alone. And even when these miracles were provided to us in ancient times, we still often refused to continue to believe, asking instead of G-d: “What have You done for me lately?” G-d has another plan for us. He wants us to be ready to receive Him, and therefore has given us free will–including our evil inclination as well as our better potential–and continues to test that free will so that we may learn to rise above our human imperfections. It is difficult to be a Jew, as it is to be a Christian. It is not a self-serving religion; it is not a natural, humanistic religion; it is not designed so that we may always feel happy and satisfied. And yet, if one looks closely, “small” miracles do present themselves regularly in our lives: the miracle of inner peace of mind, so much deeper than fleeting happiness and gratification; the miracle of selfless giving to others, so much more gratifying than selfish taking; the miracle of a loving and personal relationship with G-d, so much more joyful and trustworthy than our unstable relationships with the material possessions of this world.

Your reply points to a form of racism I would hope you did not intend. You assert an equation between the presence of certain people today with the survival of their ancestors and negate this premise for others. “Only the Jews remain.” I too remain a descendent of the Romans and am no less human than you. “I remain.” We are all descendants of the world’s ancient people, Jews and Gentiles alike. This fact has nothing to do with “stubborn insistence to continue to remain being Jews.” A person is a person regardless of the religious label put on them.

Also, as a statement, it is not kosher to say that today Roman descendants cannot look at a Jew without believing in God. Funny how there you elevate Roman descendants to the status of God witnesses as where elsewhere you don’t acknowledge their existence in the modern world (“only the Jews remain”).

You should also know that many people believe that it is the decadence of some Jews today that deter many people, not just Romans, from believing in God. Furthermore, at the very best a Jew is today a symbol of God—Only God himself can call a man or woman to belief.

Finally, the Jews themselves recognize the assistance of many righteous among the nations who assisted, “merely” and otherwise, in the survival of their group. Thus, it was their propensity for alliance with Rome and others which ultimately saved them from destruction: 1 Maccabees 8:1-32. You will need to consult a Catholic Bible for this quotation.

(Incidentally, the upper class of Rome were in those days followers of Stoicism, They knew of God and revered him and his power expressed, primarily through the harmony of nature, and through the force of logic)

God Bless You and may he correct your errors with mercy and charity towards your soul.

why is there this resurgence?I don’t want to sound cruel but don’t you think 2000yrs.is maybe a bit over patient?Im sure that Jews werre asked this same question @500,1000,and 1500yrs ago.I mean it kind of seems that God would give you some clues as to when you can expect something to happen.Yes,christians do have some simularities to the Jews.
