For JWs and LDS

Hi rmcmullan,

I began this thread to try to understand the perspective of those who believe in a Great Apostasy. I’ve learned a few things and I think that part of (let’s just say at least my confusion) is that the concepts are understood differently by the two parties, in this case the Catholics and LDS. I better understand now that the LDS hold the position that apostolic authority was lost because of the idea that the ordained fell away and none were left to pass on the keys (correct?). Then it wouldn’t matter if orthodox Christians remained… am I on the right track?

By the way, I wasn’t referring at all to the “common” priesthood the othes are discussing.

Well good then because I learned something too. I was previously unaware of the priesthood of the baptised and must admit to being intrigued by it. And yes, the LDS view is just what you stated. And now I understand better your POV.
 
Just got back from my first visit at the lds church.
WOW!!!
today was testimony day, very interesting…I have to read some of the book of mormon before I comment further.

However I hearby pronounce lds and jehovah’s witnesses as in the same restoration group…you have almost the same church with different structure.

Tell us more about your experience. Did you talk to anyone there? Was the bishop aware of your visit? Did he make any comments? Did you make it to all the meetings? Were they helpful in guiding you through the programs? Were there any black americans there? If so, did you get a chance to talk to them?

You are wrong about that one. JWs and Mormons are as far appart as the East is from the West, or North from the South, or heaven from hell!

Mormons are closer to Scientologists.

I called on the phone and told them I was new. The man was very nice and gave me his hom phone number before even meeting me.
I got to the Lds church and spoke with two missionaries and the man I spoke to on the phone in a little room. The missionaries are also very nice, and we left the little room to go to a testimony meeting. Two missionaries sat one each side of me to explain everything that was happening.
Afterwards a few people came up to greet me.
This reception was bar none, top notch…I will admit knowone could have done better.
I did not see any other black men there.

No I am correct. Both are very hospitable. Very friendly and sincere. both use the same phrases “this is the ONLY church that has such and such…there fore its the truth”…
both are very active, I mean it looks like the whole ward or congregation is envolved.
And both instruct its members well.
Mormons have the book of mormon and the bible.
Jw’s have watchtower and the bible.

not exactly east from west.
The mormon missionary said something to bring a tear to my eye…these churches are so simular that I got a flash back of my jw days that almost made me cry.

You know nothing about Mormonsm—yet. If you did, you wouldn’t be saying that.

Z Im not talking about doctrine, your doctrine is not simular to anything I know of.

But your structure IS VERY SIMULAR.
A mormon missionary looks JUST LIKE a jehovah’s witnesse bethelite. I should know…I was a bethelite.

Quit arguing me Z, because you are simulare in positive ways…there is nothing wrong with hospitality. And mormons and jw’s
get four stars for being hospitable all year round. (claping)

So Z…would it be ok if I aproached members of the ward and introduce myself and ask about there personal experiences?

I don’t want to do something that’s perceived as rude.

You tell me, what is the best way to get to know people in a ward other then missionaries, in order to see how generally happy people are and how they interact…etc…etc…

Just be yourself, and talk to them as a friend. You don’t need to do anything special.

No, I am not, but I have studied mormonism for many years, and it has no basis in fact. Not to mention a long history of violence, racism and deception.

I was told something that could have been a rumor.
I was told that mormons still practice poligamy illegally.

The man has unofficial marriages with women living in different homes. And the women just says that she dose not know who the father of her children are.

Don’t know if this is true or not?

It’s true, probably in excess of 30,000 polygamous marriages in Utah, Colorado, Arizona and Idaho.
