The doctrines of the Catholic church where changed as I and many others have stated many times.
yet ye can’t give any proof of this. when did catholic doctrine say mistresses are okay?
Arguing that the stories in the Bible show us that plural wives is always wrong is weak. I’ve lost count of the stories where people have problems even when making good choices. Is following Christ? wrong it got a lot of people killed. Was Moses telling pharaoh to let the Israelites go wrong? it caused them a whole lot of trouble. Following God’s commandments is now assurance that we will live trouble free. If the practice was so bad all the time you’d think that somewhere in the Bible someone would have made a big deal out of it given the significant people who did practice it.
but you have never shown where God COMMANDED plural wives in the bible. showing the harmful consequences of these examples isn’t “weak” because it isn’t like Job worshiping God in spite of adversity or Peter preaching in the face of persecution. these are family relationships that were harmful due to the nature of the marriages. when we view it through the context of jesus teaching on marriage it sure seems to show one man and one woman is God’s plan for marriage

True I’ve not seen that commandment recorded in the Bible. I’ don’t think “thou shalt not kill” is in 3rd john, but it is else where so I figure it is a valid commandment. As a general rule yes one man one women. I’ve pointed out many times that God often gives commandments to specific people that are different from the “normal” rule. Doing what Gods says to do now even if it is a bit different than what he said to do way back when is the right thing to do. If this was not the case we would all need to be engaged in animal sacrifice.

As to doctrine changes I’m not going to do a bunch of catholic bashing on a catholic website. I try to avoid it in general anyways, but I’ll wager if you put half the effort you’ve devoted to learning every accusation the LDS church and leaders have had to studying the catholic church’s short comings you’d find more than enough to satisfy you.

your point? (BTW if you read the actual wording of the original it’s thou shalt not murder.

general rule? Christ told us it’s the law and he told us it was that way in the beginning.

first, JS and BY, et l taught polygamy WAS the “normal rule” and that crafty men had perverted it. the CURRENT D&C tells us it’s the norm just don’t practice right now. LDS teaching on polygamy has always been that it will be the norm in the celestial kingdom.

secondly, the reason we don’t make animal sacrifices anymore is because JESUS sacrificed himself once for all and is now the high priest forever. (jewish definition of high priest here)

Because you know there aren’t any changes in doctrine

look there is nothing wrong with looking at “anti-catholic” materials as long as you verify them and make sure you aren’t quote mining out of context. i actually spent many years studying all religions and i spent many years as a mormon making sure i could show any potential converts how only the mormon church could be true since all other churches were wrong. it was my study of catholicism that eventually showed me there was no great apostasy and that it was the church that Christ established. i had no problem defending the LDs church against ed decker and his ilk or even the tanners. it was the LDS materials that showed me the errors of mormonism.

Here’s an idea, maybe, you are wrong. It’s surely possible. Same as anyone else.
