Sometimes a slip (top) does the trick, modesty-wise. When all my bras are in the wash, I’ve worn that. If you wear one that’s a wee bit small, it prevents a lot of jiggle.

I’ll bet they wish they could trade too, but I found out when nursing our first child that you should be careful what you wish for. Going from AA to B or C was a dream come true at first, until I found that they were always in my way. 😃
I went form an A cup to a C while nursing. I kept hitting my breast with my arm when I reached for something, plus they hurt my back. On the plus side, for the first time in my life, I was proportional.🤷

I’m 4 months pregnant, and I soooooo want to go back to my B-cups. I know it’s good for the baby, but I hate being top heavy.

I’m in a guys’ field. I went to school with pretty much all guys. I work with all guys. Trust me, I don’t care how small you are, guys notice when a girl is braless…and depending on the type of guy, you will probably get some feedback. Like PP’s have said–get one that is comfortable and fits you well, but don’t go without just for convenience. You’ll end up causing more of a stir than you may realize and it really is a modesty issue. A woman’s breasts are a very sexual image for men and it’s not really that charitable to walk around with more moving or showing through than necessary.

I agree that you should wear something for modesty’s sake, and also for the sag factor. There are many types of sports bras, t-shirt bras, etc. You should be able to find one that’s comfortable. I think for small-busted women, the new “bralettes” that are available are perfect for everyday wear. Think of the bra in some tank tops, but without the shirt. Some coverage and support, no discomfort.
I agree that men notice, especially when you’re walking/moving around, or it’s cold. They don’t call them “headlights” for nothing: you can’t miss an oncoming car’s lights, even if you try.
Personally, I have never found bras to be so uncomfortable as to want to go without. I’m just average sized, and I think I look 100% better in my clothes when wearing the proper kind of bra, instead of wearing just any old thing or going sans bra.

I often wear sports bras for working out…and I could see wearing those more often, for comfort sake. I’m a 34 C, so I cannot go without–without others knowing I’m going without.:o But, sports bras are a really nice alternative to the straps, etc…

They tend to support better, I think…and when you’re running, etc…if the bra can support that type of movement, then it would be great for every day wear, too.

I use to work in the industry as a bra fitter (Lane Bryant). The best advice i remember was that your bra should be able to stand alone. Most women’s boobs are not equal. By getting a bra that has support (lite padding or a push up) then your breast sit in the cup and are supported but don’t have to be the definding shape thats left up to the bra.

IMOA- I know people may not agree with me because of the nature of the store but the best bras i have found are Victoria Secret (Lane Bryant for when you get beyong a 40C). There bras just give so much support and coverage. I use them for my everyday bra wearing. As a small D/large C its hard to find good bras.I decided it was worth spedning $50 on a bra that i wear pretty much everyday (i have different colors so i rotate them.

I agree-their bras are great:thumbsup: Worth the price.

What the heck did men do for the millenia before the first bras were invented less than 120 years ago??

Yes, corsets had existed since the 1500s, but they weren’t designed with breasts in mind, their function was to give women a small waist.

Ever watch National Geographic? Sometimes they show modern day tribes…where there is no clothing, really. Let’s just say…I’m glad we have bras here!!:o

women wore numererous undergarments (slips)

I still can’t figure out why women would wear a bra to bed? It just seems werid.

A.) Your in a bed covered by a night gown, sheets and a blanket and the only person you are sleeping with is your husband (are in who might be cuddling with you. (okay in my case no husband but two cats and i don’t think they care what i look like as long as they get to sleep on the bed.)

2.) The underwire would kill me at night and probaly over time ruin the bra from all the tossing and turning.

I guess i could understand if you were nursing? 🤷

I remember a nurse on the maternity ward when I had my second child. I hated wearing bras and went without most of the time. She was adamant that I should wear my nursing bra 24/7 except when I was bathing. “If you don’t you’ll regret it when you can toss your breast over your shoulder in a few years.” “Over me shoulder? I don’t have enough to even make it to me collar bone!” 😃

Most women wore slips etc.Plus families were generally very protective about young women in a way that we would find horribly restrictive today. I have no desire to have my dad pick out my husband and to have to only go outside chaperoned.

We are talking about our modern culture though.

It doesn’t matter if men of the 1100’s didn’t give a care about women’s nipples poking through tops. What matters is that men today do make comments and stare. Some women are not bothered by this, if so, don’t wear a bra. But don’t think that because a man shouldn’t stare or make inappropriate comments that he won’t.🤷

I used to wear a bra to bed when I was a teenager. I didn’t like the loose feeling. I never wore underwire. It took me a while to get used to sleeping without a bra. I liked everything snug.

With my second child, there was a nice that told me to wear nursing bras to sleep. I ignored her because I thought the advice was silly. I don’t have enough breast either to ever worry about them being thrown over my shoulders either.:o

In the days before bras, I think it was fairly common for women to wear some sort of wrap-around undergarment to ‘bind the breasts’.

In my opinion, most small breasted women could get away with a tight fitting tank top IF it is worn as an undergarment and not just as a top. But that would be if the outer garment is somewhat loose fitting.

I’ve seen some sport tanks made with lycra. They are kind of like a sports bra except that they are a full top (as opposed to a tank top with a bra built in.) For a woman who is a B size or less I think one of these might suffice.

But again, I am speaking of using a tank top as an undergarment, not as a stand-a-lone. And tighter fitting outerwear requires a bra.

I don’t know, there is this mom at my kids’ elementary school that is extremely small breasted, like about the size that I was in 5th grade, and she never wears a bra. I think it is probably way more noticeable than she realizes. I know I feel uncomfortable because I have a hard time not noticing and while I am just thinking “why isn’t she wearing a bra?” I am sure the dads there are even more uncomfortable.

And she is probably not even AA. If you are a B cup, not only is noticeable it is definitely less flattering to not wear a bra. Your clothes honestly do look a million times better when you wear a proper fitting bra.

I can’t imagine wearing an underwire bra to bed.

While no doubt there were some people who had a modesty hangup I do think that most times wearing a bra to bed is suggested for people who have a sagging problem. This might be especially true for overweight women.

As far as nursing, I think comfort is the key. If the extra weight hurt, (and in my case it did) then I wore the bra at night. Also, if someone is prone to ‘leakage’ then wearing a nursing bra while sleeping might be wise.
