Please pray for me for this intense infatuation I’ve developed for this woman who attends daily Mass. I have been attending daily Mass to help me overcome some mental health problems (anxiety, obsessive-compulsive thinking, scrupulosity, etc.) that I’ve been struggling with for quite some time. But there is a woman there who I met through a Young Adult group. She is very friendly to me; and I’ve asked her out, and she has said “O.K.”, but when I call her; she doesn’t return my calls. Prudence tells me that because of all of the anxiety this produces for me, and because of her life’s situation (she has 2 young children from a previous non-sacramental marriage) that this is not a good situation for me, and that I need to let this whole thing go.

But my obsessive mind doesn’t always want to co-operate! I really don’t want to have to stop going to daily Mass, unless it’s God’s will (though I don’t see how it could be!). It’s very difficult for me to concentrate on the Mass when she’s there. She’s so beautiful, and seeing her so reverently take part in the Mass with here eyes fixed on the sanctuary really touches my heart! How I desire to be in that same place spiritually myself. . .

My intelligence tells me that this is really a hunger for more complete union with God. And also that it masks a deeper wound I feel from the many rejections I’ve experienced in my life, especially a recent relationship that ended so painfully. One’s desire to pursue a pure relationship is good in itself; but these obsessive thoughts that can consume me tells me that my desire for a relationship with this woman has become an idol. The pain that I struggle with this can be SO intense! Please pray that I will be truly open to God showing me a pathway that will lead me to a deep and profound union with Him; one that will liberate me from this obsession I’m experiencing.

I remember reading in Blessed Pier Georgio Frasatti’s biography that he had a similar situation in his life.

Thank you all, your prayers have really helped me before.

I’m praying for your situation?

PRayerfully,

Praying for your intentions, Spangler…

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and in the hour of our death. Amen.

Lord, please give spangler1982 the grace to recognize the path you have set before him.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone one who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence I fly to you, O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother. To you do I come; before you I stand sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer them. Amen.

:signofcross:

Lord Jesus, we ask that spangler be given
strength to overcome his feelings during mass.
Grant him peace so that he may come and
receive your body and blood while concentrating
on nothing but you Lord.
We ask this in the name of Jesus.
AMEN

Praying very hard to St. Dymphna for you! We have OCD in our family and I know how hard it is to cope with. Hang in there, God loves you!

Thank you everybody. Today is difficult, but your prayers give me hope!

Dear Spangler,

You sound like you’ve already figured the situation out - and it sounds very well-thought out and prudent. We, too, have OCD in our family and I know how difficult it can be. I will pray daily for you. I will pray that Our Lord will help you determine the best course in this situation. He will get you through this! God bless you!!🙂
