For lighting the candles during the 3 days of darkness will a normal lighter work or do I have to get matches and then get them blessed?

I was wondering to light your beeswax candles during the 3 days of darkness if a Normal lighter will work ONLY on the Blessed candles or do I need matches and then get them blessed?

Since it isn’t mentioned to get matches blessed I’d say you are fine not doing it. Otherwise that’s a key piece of information people would need to know that has been left out.

What are the three days of darkness?
An approved private revelation to Bl. Anna Maria Taigi that involves the earth being plunged into darkness for 3 days and 3 nights during which time all the faithful are supposed to stay indoors and will only be able to use blessed beeswax candles for their light.

As will all approved private revelations, Catholics are free to believe or not believe in it.

There are also a number of unapproved private revelations on this topic.

Which rather throws doubt on to the whole idea, don’t you think, OP.

My mother when she converted stumbled upon them fairly early on like the OP.
The three days of darkness are a private revelation of three days (believe to be Thursday Friday and Saturday) where hell runs rampant.
It’s not expected by the church to believe it.

Like my mother it causes all manor of panic in new converts.

I wouldn’t worry.

Wow. Alrighty then. Whistles softly and keeps walking

3DOD is a “tolerated opinion” (opinio tolerata), based upon various private revelations and some less-mainstream interpretations of Scripture. It absolutely does not bind as something the faithful must believe.

Still, when all is said and done, either it will happen, or it will not. If 3DOD advocates are right, only blessed beeswax candles will burn. I really have to doubt that Our Blessed Lord would allow us to have these candles, yet have no way to light them. The candles don’t light themselves (unless, conceivably, Our Lord would miraculously allow them to burn without having been lit first).

I do have to say, that anyone who struggles with scrupulosity needs to steer clear of this teaching, or indeed, any teachings, opinions, or private revelations that are not absolutely, unquestionably binding on Catholics to believe. Private revelations are never binding matters of Catholic Faith.

Exactly. We have to form our consciences well before we tackle these sorts of things.

No I don’t, simply I just like to ask these questions, I like this topic so that’s why I ask these types of questions, 😉

Blessed Solanus Casey on worry

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

I’m sure if God ever chose to send 3 days of darkness, he’d take care of his people’s needs.

I’m not worried hehe, thank you, I just like to prepare on these upcoming events 😁😁

That’s fine, I guess. I do have a couple beeswax candles here (Not blessed yet), and some blessed paraffin candles, but with my luck, when the darkness hit I’d be staying at another address.

Nice. I have many 100% beeswax candles that I bought and got them blessed! Always good to stay prepared!

If you want to be prepared, assemble a “bug-out bag” with your necessities and a checklist of things to grab in an evacuation. Amass, and regularly rotate enough food to weather a disruption in the supply chain. Purchase, and regularly rotate, enough batteries to survive a long power outage.

Go to confession and receive the Eucharist regularly.

Study up on relevant disasters, be they earthquake, flood, fire, hurricane, or tornado. Keep a little hand-cranked radio handy to listen. And rest assured, Jesus is the One who storms obey: be at peace!

They’re implicitly approved because Bl. Anna Maria Taigi is beatified. When someone is beatified, then their private revelations are considered implicitly approved, assuming that there isn’t any question of whether the beatified person is actually the source of the revelation.

Marie-Julie Jahenny also allegedly received further revelations about 3 Days of Darkness, but she’s not beatified and those haven’t been approved any other way, so hers are not approved.

Padre Pio also gets quoted as having allegedly received revelations about this, but as often happens with Padre Pio, a lot of stuff has been attributed to him with no proof that he actually said it or wrote it, and I have seen nothing definitive that he said or wrote anything about 3 Days of Darkness.
