For lighting the candles during the 3 days of darkness will a normal lighter work or do I have to get matches and then get them blessed?

Got it–that would also apply to her friend, Bl. Elisabeth Canori Mora who had similar revelations (and others). Taigi’s have also been published in books having a Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur, I believe.

Yes. However, we can also have private revelations published with Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur when the person is not yet beatified, or is unlikely to ever be canonized, or is even still living. Such books of private revelations may be read by the faithful, but the revelations are still not considered approved, unless the bishop or Vatican approve the revelations through the investigation process specifically for revelations.

Have confidence in God and don’t worry.
If there is 3 days darkness then I trust that God will ignite what ever candles I have.
This is our God, described when Moses met the Burning Bush. That same God hides himself in our tabernacles around the world for centuries.

We also have in 1 Kings 18 Elijah vs the prophets of Baal.
You don’t have to worry if you have a lighter or matches. God provides.

For what it’s worth, the three days of darkness is generally seen as an expounding of the Biblical prophecies in Joel 2:31, Acts 2:20, and Rev. 6:12 and a parallel to Exo. 10:21-23.

As in all of them, if we are faithful and trust in the Lord, we’ll be fine (even if we don’t make it through alive–and we’ve all got to go at some point in one way or another, so it’s always good to keep one’s spiritual lamp lit).

Actually is says God does it to prevent things from becoming worse - its not a punishment. The horror stories of it come from private revelation.
