at your old posts?

I’ve been a member of the forum since 2004. My daughter is graduating this June and I’m making her a scrapbook. It got me thinking and I went through the advanced search option and used keyword daughter with my screen name in ascending order. I’ve been reading through my old posts. Its been pretty fascinating. I used to post a lot years back, not very often now.

Its fun to read. One thing that struck me is how I talked about doctors telling me I needed a heart transplant within a few years back in 04. I prayed to God to let me get my daughter through to graduation before that happened. She’s graduating in a couple months and my heart is still hanging on. Thank you God!

There’s many new posters now and many of the old ones are gone but it was pretty neat looking back.

I don’t look for my old posts, but I’ve around about that long, as well (I think it says I joined in 2006, but I was a member before that, and something happened and I rejoined. I can’t remember what now). It’s crazy how much time has gone by. My screen name still reflects my children as of 2006- all girls-though now I have 2 boys, too! I was off for while too, and just started posted a lot since I gave up facebook for Lent (I know, defeats the purpose). I remember your heart issues, it’s wonderful that you haven’t had to have surgery yet!

I joined in 2005 but was off for a while and then came back. It might be interesting to find some of the old posts. The funny thing is that we are STILL arguing over the same stuff. I guess periodically new people join and want to convince us that abortion is OK and there should be women priests and the whole problem with the priest shortage is celibacy…

I was listening to Cardinal Dolan and he said that when journalists interview Catholics they “sing their ABCs” over and over again…Abortion, Birth control, Celibacy" Some things don’t change do they?

I have learned a LOT from my fellow CAF posters and enjoy the intellectual discussions.

I hope your heart is mended! But if you do have a transplant, by now the technology has made this surgery and living a long and normal life with a transplanted organ possible.

Sometimes…Like you, I sort of need a reason…I start looking for something or other that I might have posted “awhile back” and the next thing you know I’m looking and reading all sorts of old conversations.

It is interesting…

Peace
James

I’ve only been here since last June. But looking back at that time, my husband was not even open to talking about joining the Church and I was prepared to jump in alone. We’re at the end of our RCIA process now, preparing to take the Eucharist for the first time on Saturday and he is so into the Faith it’s easy to forget how opposed he was less than a year ago. We’ve also had a second baby in that time and our lives are just so different now. It’s pretty neat to look at your own self-growth and how God has blessed your life so much in such a relatively short period of time.

I have on a couple of occasions, but I don’t make a habit of doing so.

Peace

Tim

In 2006 I think was that big CAF crash and not every thread was able to be saved same with every poster.

And yes I agree, so wonderful that rayne has been doing well enough! Praise God!

My daughter was nine when I joined and now she is 17. We homeschooled her at the time, but she began public school in 9th grade. It was funny reading some stuff like- because we let her believe in Santa she would stop believing in God, or because we let her sleep in under clothes instead of pajamas when she was little she would become immodest. Or letting her have pokemon cards would make her fascinated with the occult. She’s going on a discernment retreat in May, she thinks she may have a vocation to religious life -so ehh yeah that didn’t happen. 🙂
I was a bit testy at times in my posts…lol. And I cringe at my occasional spelling errors. It is neat to see how I have grown from nearly a decade ago.

I have looked back every once in a while and I always find it interesting to see how my opinions and thoughts have evolved or stayed the same throughout that time. I’ve been a journal keeper since I was 12-years-old and every few years or so, I look back on them to see what kind of person I was at each year. I even write letters to myself every few years and will not open them until the date I indicate on the envelope. You learn a lot about yourself and human nature, I think, when you read back on your past. Another thing is that it teaches you to never think that all people are completely stagnant. How a person was in 2003 may not be exactly the same in 2013.

I agree about cringing with spelling and grammar mistakes. I tend to do fly-by postings because I’m crazy busy, sometimes only typing with one hand. I don’t often have a chance to really proof read. So, I apologize, for any of my poorly written posts. 😛

I’ve looked back sometimes when I copy/paste resources I think are good. I feel like I was more knowledgeable about the faith and more articulate back then. I should have gotten better not worse. 🤷

Congratulations to your daughter! I am sure you are proud of the young lady she has become.

I don’t look back on my old posts on purpose. Sometimes, though, someone will resurrect an old thread that I commented on. I read through and wonder what I said, wondering if I would give the same advice now. Usually I do so I suppose that is good.

I don’t. Some things were quite difficult in my life and I asked for advice and prayers. I don’t want to be reminded of that.

Sometimes someone else dredges up a thread I posted on back in the day. I often have the urge to say, like the philosopher Jeremy Bentham did when he came across something he’d written years earlier, ‘surely this was never my opinion!’

I’m not a long time poster here, but I am elsewhere. I never look back.
