I want to help start Perpetual or almost perpetual adoration in as many parishes as possible. I find that too many Churches are closed, except during Mass, and people are not able to go to Church to be with the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Also, I took the teaching of Jesus Really Present in the Eucharist seriously, when I went for frequent Holy Hours of Adoration at a Parish that has perpetual 24/7 adoration. I took the teaching as taken seriously because of the dedication of people going to adoration and making sure Jesus was never alone. To me, a Church that does not have Perpetual or almost perpetual adoration, shows me that those parishioners do not take the Eucharist seriously, and do not care to make time spent with our Lord on the Altar. If not perpetual, how about at least 12 hours every day? Or at least, have the Churches open so that we can be with Jesus in the Tabernacle. Churches which don’t have their doors open, or extensive hours of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, sends me the message that they don’t really believe it is Jesus in the consecrated host. The best way to bring people into the Church, is to show that Jesus is truly in the Blessed Sacrament. I guarantee that Protestants and others who love Jesus, seeing us take time to spend with Jesus present on the altar, will begin to take it seriously. There are a lot of people who love Jesus but who are not aware of the blessings of Eucharistic adoration spent with our Lord. We, as a Church, need to take Adoration seriously. I have tried proposing it to parishes that don’t have it, and people dread the commitment involved. I said at one parish meeting in a parish that is being rearranged “If you want real renewal, start Perpetual Adoration. Our goal is to help people get to Heaven, and if you don’t like Adoration, you won’t like Heaven.”
But I would like to ask for prayers for greater devotion to Perpetual Adoration. I would like a powerful movement to foment around this devotion. It is sad that we cannot get enough people interested in giving but one Holy Hour with our Lord so that every parish has Perpetual Adoration. I have heard of parishes cancelling adoration because people leave the Lord exposed all alone on the altar. Why are we losing this devotion instead of people joining it. But please pray for this. It sounds like ranting, but it would be lovely if I knew that anytime I drove by a Catholic Church, I could go through the unlocked entrance and spend some time with Jesus. Instead some churches have locked their doors for fear of vandalism or theft (which is what happened in my local parish Church when someone threw a Molotov cocktail in).
Blessed (soon to be Saint) John Paul II said that he wanted their to be Perpetual Adoration in every parish in the world, and if this be God’s will, please pray that we may muster up the faith, hope, and love to gather people around such a cause. Let us bring Adoration to as many parishes as we can, and occupy our pews with billions of adorers throughout the world.
May God bless you all.
Amen.
