The National Conference of Christians and Jews (NCCJ) stated, among other things, that,
The film does not fairly portray the Mormon Church, Mormon history, or Mormon belief. It makes extensive use of half-truths, faulty generalizations, sensationalism, and is not reflective of the true spirit of Mormon faith. We find particularly offensive the emphasis that Mormonism is some sort of subversive plot — a danger to the community, a threat to the institution of marriage, and destructive to the mental health of teenagers. We are of the opinion that the film relies heavily on appeals to fear, prejudice and unworthy human emotions.

That was an odd reply. Personally, I’m not interested in hearing what the NCCJ has to say. I’d like to hear LDS members’ specific refutations of the video’s contents.

I thought I was pretty specific in stating it taught bigotry through lies and half truths

Can I post Jack Chick tracts and demand that Catholics respond to each and every claim?
Here’s a good one on the evil Jesuits chick.com/catalog/comics/0120_m.asp
Have at it 👍

I’ll rephrase my statement: I’d like to hear the truth as you know it.
Read the real LDS doctrine and teaching to your hearts content at www.lds.org
The General Conference talks are recorded and a great method to learn what is being taught RIGHT NOW.

While I’m not a big fan of Mormonism, that video is equivalent (or worse) to the Jack Chick tracts that were produce against Mormons and Catholics. If you have a specific question in regards to their faith, I suggest asking them yourself. Why start from the grave to better understand their faith?

I’m disappointed, to say the least, that Mormons don’t personally evangelize with zeal to those outside the faith. Even the elders who have stopped me on the street haven’t been able to describe their faith to me in great detail. They’ve always pointed me elsewhere to get the truth.

I suppose that’s but one difference between Mormons and Catholics. As we say, “If you’re baptized, you’re a missionary!” Christ commands us to preach, and we take that responsiblity very seriously.

May God bless you!

A much better starting point!!! If any Catholic wants to sink their teeth into good stuff, pick a talk by President Packer, Elder Oaks, or Elder Holland. A much better starting point for things that are taught NOW 🙂

Actually, I suspect they were guided by the Holy Spirit in their actions.
When you are ready to learn, you will start a real dialogue.

Evangelizing by non-Catholics on this forum is against the rules, and rude (IMHO)

That’s the thing, Mormons seem to have a habit of saying, “Read this and be guided by the Holy Spirit.”

If we were all guided by the Holy Spirit, we’d all understand things in the same way, for He cannot teach us wrong.

I’ve been asking you for dialog throughout this thread, and you simply talk in circles. I’m still interested in hearing specifically what you find to be false in that video. A blanket statement that the whole thing is false is meaningless.

Are the statements of the Mormons quoted in it false? Taken out of context? I sincerely would like you to elaborate.

Do you yourself not need to preach in order to get to heaven?

start a new thread if you have real/sincere questions.
As I’ve stated, this thread/OP is about bigotry and I refuse the bait.

My friend, I think I’ll give this thread some time to be read by other Mormons who are more outspoken in their faith.

You sense bigotry where there are sincere questions. You blew your chance to enlighten me.

Peace!

I see no ecumenical efforts from you as well. 😦

I suggest trying this on a LDS site. You would be banned in minutes.

I don’t think a Mormon would watch the video, so they are unable to refute any specifics. That is why you just got the standard “it is bigotry” response.

I know, it’s as though Mormons live in a buble. They can’t take or refute criticism of any kind. Almost as though you’d have to be blindly loyal before you get the truth, as opposed to the truth reinforcing your loyalty. It’s no wonder that so many Christians consider LDS to be cult-like.

Just about any one else would engage in logical debate, correcting or refuting another’s errors, as Our Lord Jesus Christ did throughout His Gospel. Jews, Protestants, Jehovah’s Witnesses, et al. preach. Mormons clam up. It’s very bizarre to someone who enjoys learning, which I do.

I’ve had LDS missionaries over for dinner many times and regularly produced the best debates about misunderstandings about each others faith. If I would have shown a video of this nature, it would lead to ZERO respect and no opportunities for learning would develop. This is besides the fact that my marriage would have ended shortly after trying to show that. Us as Christians are suppose to plant seeds for our Lord to cultivate. The only thing you are planting are weeds that need to be BURNED IMO.

My wife did not live in a bubble and DEFINITELY was not the Molly Mormon type.

Well, in that case, I think Matthew 10:14 just about sums it up for me.

We can all respect each other as human creatures of God, but respect for one’s theology is earned through honest and sincere discourse, not accusations of bigotry.

I didn’t post the video. I simply asked about the LDS thoughts on it. And it offends me, as a creature of intellect and free will, that they refuse to discuss their faith.
