Read the real LDS doctrine and teaching to your hearts content at www.lds.org
The General Conference talks are recorded and a great method to learn what is being taught RIGHT NOW.
Sorry, but you and others have said to me directly that what LDS.org has on the website is not necessarily what you believe your church teaches. Can you give us a more definite source for the teachings of the LDS church?

Well, in that case, I think Matthew 10:14 just about sums it up for me.

We can all respect each other as human creatures of God, but respect for one’s theology is earned through honest and sincere discourse, not accusations of bigotry.

I didn’t post the video. I simply asked about the LDS thoughts on it.
Fair enough. The Jack Chick tracts does a better representation. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give the Jack Chick tracts a 2 and I give that video a 1 in regards to a fair representation of their faith. EVERYTHING was a half-truth at best.

I understand your point. But even half-truths are half true. Figuring out which half is the tricky part. As they say, the devil’s in the details.

Anyway, you made a good point a few posts ago. Being human and frail, I’m finding it difficult to remain graceful in light of this thread. I think it best to go elsewhere for now.

Good night, and may God bless you and all who read this.

Perhaps this talk can help this discussion get off to a better start from Elder Holland. It’s titled “The Only True God and Jesus Christ Whom He Hath Sent”

lds.org/general-conference/2007/10/the-only-true-god-and-jesus-christ-whom-he-hath-sent?lang=eng&query=holland+jesus+christ+(name%3a"Jeffrey+R.+Holland")+(collection%3a"general-conference

I’ve found the General Conference Talks as a good starting point to understand our LDS bretheren. This one is a classic IMO that should befuddle Catholics.

A great talk, with plenty of legitimate LDS teachings to discuss

As opposed to what was taught YESTERDAY and what may be taught TOMORROW. You must understand that mormon “doctrine” is extremely changable and flexible. One size can, will or may fit all, depending upon whom you are listening to. What is the infallible pronouncement of Almighty God Himself today, may be just another “prophet’s” personal opinion tomorrow. So, if you do not like mormon “doctrine”, just wait a few months or years, it will most likely change. Tony888 is correct in some respects, some of the things depicted in the cartoon are inaccurate. They USED to be accurate, but mormon “doctrine” has conveniently changed. This is the genius of mormonism, “don’t like it?” Change it, all is well. We poor Catholics have been stuck with the same unchangable doctrine, taught by Jesus Christ Himself, for two thousand years, unchanged.

Please let us know when your LDS people at the top plan to pull out the original texts, magazines, papers out of the vault and pass them around to the Mormon troops. That’s the crux of the matter HOSE MONKEY has stated it well

That Jeremiah film- I watched about 3 minutes of it (banned cartoon was it?) is an old one I saw in the 80’s or like one I saw years ago and similar in content to “The Godmakers”. Point is those people wouldn’t dream of producing a film without it being IRON CLAD; I would bet they had their attorneys go over those films upside down & inside out.👍 - the brethern haven’t sued over these half truths & lies. It would be an embarrasing proposition to parade the documents in court that are the basis for these films 😊

Copies of original LDS documents - can find IN sources & have suggested this several times on other threads - I invite you and your LDS friends to get ahold of copies of these originals for your own edification. You love your newfound LDS culture and ways; we can all understand that. HOWEVER, way too easy to resort to playing the ‘BIGOTRY’ CARD and just more DEFLECTION . ONCE AGAIN, feel free to obtain original copies of these and peruse for your own enlightenment (probably not in your local beehive bookstore; if not, WHY NOT?)

The Book of Mormon 1830, Palmyra, NY & compare to a recent edition. You may find the > 3900 changes in it.
Doctrine and Covenants… Kirtland, Ohio, 1935
The Pearl of Great Price Liverpool, England 1851
Times and Seasons. Nauvoo, Il 1839-46
L.D.S. Millennial Star, England 1840-1970
No Man Knows My History by Fawn Brodie - LDS approached Fawn Brodie to write Joseph Smith’s story. She won an Alfred Knopf award for the book & then they booted her OUT - that’s a lot of thanks for doing an exceptional job don’t you think!

Naw, a more accurate description is “SHUNNED” to which you still don’t respond to my question 5x, 6x - Golly, I lost count.

Hose Monkey - great point 😃 :tiphat:

Thanks for your support. I have been chastised, condemned and gifted with infractions for being “uncharitable, insulting, un-Christian” etc. for simply pointing out that mormonism has trouble with the facts, plays fast and loose with the truth etc, etc. My great problem with mormonism is not their wacky theology, but rather their dishonesty and distortions of the truth. The “alternative” usage of Christian terminology, their spurious claims of “Christianity,” their lack of full disclosure to prospective recruits and their insulting allegations of a “Great Apostacy” on the part of the Catholic Church. Not to mention their mockery of true priesthood. Anyhow, you get the drift.

hosemonkey,
Referencing official sources and pointing out facts does not by it’s nature require one to also be insulting.

I clicked on the link and watched about 8 seconds before shutting it off. All the YouTube video ads on the right margins seemed really LDS negative, so I’m guessing that video was also of that ilk. Maybe I’m wrong, but…the black screen opening credits were a tip-off. And the first sentence narrated referenced the LDS faith as a “Christian veneer”. Boo!

Golly, hasn’t this approach already been exhausted other threads? If a new thread has to be started, why not discuss some things positive about our mutual faiths?

Here, I’ll start – I saw Catholicism on EWTN last night. Very good show. Missionary efforts in Africa seem to be changing lives. And one of the priests (I can’t remember his name) seemed really compassionate and devoted to the needy.

Who’s next? 🙂

No, it claimed to summarize lds beliefs. And I wanted to know if it was telling the truth or not.

I am a Mormon. While the movie appears to be inspired by true concepts, there is a ton of error in it and I am impressed at how it was presented in such a dark way. It is gruesome to watch. Gives me the creeps. Someone has made some vast assumtions that have no doctrinal base.

Multiple Goddess wives? Endless sex? People cast down to earth with dark skins? Jesus married to Mary Magdelene? We becoming God’s of our own world?

Sorry, I only watched half of the movie.

The movie is a bunch of fragmented half truths about a small segment of Mormon beliefs.

Mormons believe that we are all spirit children of God. We know of know other Gods. We do believe that Jesus was the favored son and only begotten in the flesh while Satan rebelled and was cast down with many followers.

There is no doctrine concerning Jesus being married but it is assumed by some that he was. It was abnormal for a man his age to not be married. Remember that wives are rarely mentioned in the bible. We do know that Peter was married because Christ healed Peters mother in law.

There are some assumptions made because Mormons believe in eternal progression which means that we continue to learn and grow after we are dead. What kind of people will we be in one thousand years? How about a trillion years?

Mormons do believe that marriage and families can be eternal.

The movie did not cover core doctrines of Mormonism such as salvation by faith in Christ.

It’s so bad, the LDS of the board don’t wish to waste the time to comment.

An analagy would be you standing on a pitchers mound and asking a Mormon what they think. Since they’re standing in the parking lot, it’s hard to have a conversation.

You’ve shown garbage that smells and you seem amazed that they haven’t responded. Whatever…

We know of know other Gods,
Council of gods? Plurality of gods? …sound familiar?

Well yes, many LDS seek to follow Jesus, but you are sidetracked by these other teachings, which are not teachings of Jesus Christ, but of Joseph Smith’s imagination.

PETERL & LATTERDAYLADY etc.

Please refer to the sources in post #27. Once again, let us know when the originals I have discussed will freely be distributed to the Mormon Faithful. I started studying Mormonism IN DEPTH about 1980 or so. I worked for a relentless former missionary to Quebec, a boss who was bound & determined to get me to join the LDS. I worked for him for 14 years. At the time when I started, I was a fallen away Catholic but studied both groups in extreme depth to keep my head above water. I am truly grateful he debated me as much as he did because it led me to a tidal wave of Catholicism; I understand the LDS: tithes, mutual, firesides, food storage, the local cannery, welfare office, family home evenings, sacrament meeting, the dances, plays, musicals especially the hymn about Mother God, funerals, weddings, even attended the Messiah at the local Stake center. TRUST ME I understand where you are coming from and how wonderful the LDS people are & that is very, very true!! But bottom line is You make a direct claim to the Catholic Church

Here is the catch & shocking & very disturbing when I realized this at first 30 years ago.:
Your Jesus and My Jesus are 2 different People
Your God and My God are 2 different People
Your Joseph Smith and My Joseph Smith are 2 different people
LDS words have different meanings than the 2000 year old Church’s meanings.
It would appear an angel has given a different Gospel

Here is my rebuttal: refer to Post #27 in this thread.

Right on the money!👍

I concur as well…very clear to me with the responses by Mormons…

Thanks for addressing those tenets.
