I came into the Church just a few weeks ago at the Easter Vigil. For several weeks before the Vigil, my mother would not speak to me because I refused to reconsider converting. She is a staunch Southern Baptist, and I’ve always known that she’s had objections to the Church, but I had no idea what her specific objections were because she refused to discuss the matter with me.
Yesterday, I received an email from her that broke my heart. This is what it said:
Thanks for reading my request, and God bless!
Yesterday, I received an email from her that broke my heart. This is what it said:
… you have abandoned all you been taught in life and joined a cult. If you had really done all the research you said you had, you would know it is the truth. … there is no mistake worse than living without Christ as your personal Savior and I am so broken-hearted with grief fearing that you will not share eternity with me. I can see how Catholics become Christian but I cannot believe that a true Christian would ever become a Catholic.
I’ve been praying a Rosary everyday for several weeks with the intention that my mother would at least be open to discussing the truth about the Church with me. Needless to say, her harsh words were very discouraging. I will continue to pray of course, and I ask that anyone who feels so inclined also pray for my mother’s heart to be softened, and that when the time is right, the Holy Spirit will guide in me in what I should say to her.I love you with all my heart but I don’t know what you expect me to do. I love my Savior, Jesus Christ, more, and I believe you have denounced Him and the life He gave for you.
Thanks for reading my request, and God bless!
