For my daughter who is suffering from school phobia

She has missed school a lot lately because of one reason or another. Now she is outright refusing to go. We are becoming very concerned. She has anxiety and now we are concerned she has depression as well. We don’t know what to do. We are working with the school, and they have been great. Appointments with a psychotherapist are possibly in her future.

Your prayer request reminds me of a former classmate of mine who did something very embarrassing in school (we were twelve years old then). She never came back to school after that. Identifying the real trigger of the phobia will help. A change of setting might be necessary.
 
I’m praying for your daughter. May God heal her of whatever is bothering her.
 
I pray that God will reveal the root of your daughter’s anxiety and that He will restore her to be who he created her to be. Praying for strength guidance a d courage for you and the rest of your family and for anyone else who may be responsible for assisting your child. Amen

Have you asked her is anyone is picking on her there, be it other kids or a teacher?

We have, she said the science/math teacher has said she doesn’t have any sympathy for 4th graders. This bothered my daughter. She is one of those very shy and very smart girls. Other than that, she also has had a fear of spiders, and a fear of high ceilings, which is called Altocelarophobia. Yes, it is a real thing. She has trouble walking into any building with a high ceiling, unless she is used to it. It makes going to mass on vacation real interesting.

One good thing is her mom has a Master’s degree in social work and has worked with kids in a therapeutic setting in the past. Most of them have much worse problems.

UPDATE: She has gone to school Monday and today. Monday was difficult and her mom had to almost drag her to the classroom. Today she was terrific and was in a good mood all day. She met her new therapist today after school and really likes her. Hopefully she is turning a corner.
