I need strength I don’t feel that I have right now because I’m entirely burnt out…

I’m my father’s caretaker while my mother works. Or worked, before she got laid off. Unfortunately, my father can be hard to deal with. He’s an older man, who had a rough upbringing, and has a lot of bitterness… He often lashes out at me or my mother and while I know he doesn’t mean to be the way he is… Well, it still hurts.

And honestly, I’m tired of it. I sacrificed a lot for him; I put my life on hold to be the live-in caretaker that he needed… And well, I feel taken advantage of. And I’m fearing that I’m getting bitter.

I’m tired of fighting with him. I’m tired of hearing him pick fights with my mother. I’m tired of feeling that I have to walk on eggshells in my own home because I never know what’s going to set him off. I’m tired of feeling like that he thinks he’s the king of the world even though he’s not capable of even taking care of himself…

And I feel guilty for feeling all of this. My confessor tells me that it’s natural, that I shouldn’t feel bad for these feelings and these thoughts, and I try not to but right now I’m so mentally and physically exhausted I can’t help myself.

So please. Pray for him, pray for my mother, and pray for me. Thank you.

Sorry for your difficulty. Please know you are doing a good thing in the midst of your tiredness.

I don’t know if you have connected with caregiver support groups. If not you could google it, or call a large home health company or hospice in your area and ask one of their Social Workers how to get in touch.

As well, sometimes local nursing facilities have special “respite” rates to which your dad could go for a few days to give you a break.

Good luck. You are being prayed for.

I will pray for your intentions.

There is a saying “Hurt people hurt people.” From what you said, it sounds like this is the case with your father.
On a Christian radio station, a lady who is 101 yrs old, said that people lash out and are miserable often for two reasons: A bad childhood and Chronic physical pain.

Is there any way you could sneak off to Eucharistic Adoration once per week? If you can, sitting in the presence of our Lord and begging Him for strength and patience could be life changing, not to mention the small break. We all have our limits!

God bless you for your many sacrfices for your father! Our Lord looks favorably upon those who care for the sick. 🙂
Peace and all good!

A Prayer for Family Caregivers

Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you
and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for your selves. For my yoke
is easy, and my burden light. (Matthew 11:28-30)

Healer of souls and comforter of the weary, help
to lighten the burden of families who are caring
for their sick loved ones. Accompany them on their
journey and ease their anxiety and fears. Surround
them with the love and strength of others, so they
may experience the healing presence of the
Communion of Saints. We ask this through the
intercession of Our Lady of Lourdes and in the name
of Your Son, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, now
and forever. Amen.

xNoOnex,

I have been in a similar place that you are in. I was young when my grandfather and grandmother were staying at our family home so the burden was not on my shoulders. I could see my mothers frustration and that she was getting weak and tired. It can be difficult but you are carrying out a mission of God and you will be rewarded. Things will at times be difficult and its at these times where you can try to find a quiet place for 5 minutes to reflect on the good that God has done and reflect on the good that YOU are doing in his name.

You will be remembered In my prayers.

God bless

Hail Mary
Full of grace,
The Lord is with Thee.
Blessed art Thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb,
Jesus
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of death,
Amen

Petition to St. Peter and St. Paul

O holy Apostles, Peter and Paul, I choose you this day and forever to be my special patrons and advocates; thee, Saint Peter, Prince of the Apostles, because thou art the Rock, upon which Almighty God hath built His Church; thee, Saint Paul, because thou wast fore-chosen by God as the Vessel of election and the Preacher of truth in the whole world. Obtain for me, I pray you, lively faith, firm hope, and burning love; complete detachment from myself, contempt of the world, patience in adversity, humility in prosperity, attention in prayer, purity of heart, a right intention in all my works, diligence in fulfilling the duties of my state of life, constancy in my resolutions, resignation to the will of God and perseverance in the grace of God even unto death; that so, by means of your intercession and your glorious merits, I may be able to overcome the temptations of the world, the flesh and the devil, and may be made worthy to appear before the chief and eternal Shepherd of souls, Jesus Christ, Who with the Father and the Holy Ghost liveth and reigneth for endless ages, to enjoy His presence and love Him forever. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

V. Thou shalt make them princes over all the earth.
R. They shall be mindful of Thy name, O Lord.

Let us pray:

O God, Whose right hand raised up blessed Peter, when he walked upon the water and began to sink, and thrice delivered his fellow-Apostle Paul from the depths of the sea, when he suffered shipwreck: graciously hear us and grant, by the merits of them both, that we also may attain unto everlasting glory: Who livest and reignest world without end. Amen

:gopray:

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning is now ever shall be world without end
Amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Prayer to Our Lady of Mental Peace

O Lady of Mental Peace,
Mother of Tranquility
and Mother of Hope,
look upon xNoOnex in this time
of weakness and unrest.

Teach her searching heart
to know that God’s Love
for her is unchanging and
unchangeable, and, that
true human love can only
begin and grow by touching
His Love.

Let your gentle Peace -
which this world cannot give
  • be always with her.
And, help her to bring this
    same Peace into the lives
    of others.
Our Lady of Mental Peace,
  • Pray for us!
    Amen.
Jesus, Help Me!

In every need let me come to You with humble trust,
saying:
Jesus, help me!
In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations:
Jesus, help me!
In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials:
Jesus, help me!
In the failure of my plans and hopes, in disappointments,
troubles and sorrows:
Jesus, help me!
When others fail me, and Your Grace alone can assist me:
Jesus, help me!
When I throw myself on Your tender Love as Savior:
Jesus, help me!
When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good
come from my efforts:
Jesus, help me!
When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me:
Jesus, help me!
When I am ill, and my head and hands cannot work and
I am lonely:
Jesus, help me!

Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls and short-
comings of every kind:
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, help me and never forsake me!

Amen

For Help in Trials

Most holy apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases–of things despaired of. Pray for me who feels so hopeless. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, in particular (xNoOnex), and that I may bless God with you and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise you, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. Amen.
