I’ve already posted several intentions this week, but one more cannot hurt:
For the repose of the soul of my dad’s friend, Rick. Rick was a good friend of my father who passed away several months ago, back in April. Rick had a sudden heart attack in April when he was out riding his bicycle with my father and a group of other cyclists. The other cyclists had thought that Rick had just dropped back to rest. They didn’t know that he was in trouble and continued on without him. Unfortunately, Rick collapsed, and could not be saved despite attempts at CPR. I’m worried that after the incident that my dad might feel some guilt over what happened, even though it wasn’t really his fault. I also hope that the other team members do not feel guilt because of this. His widow is also struggling quite a bit, and Rick also left behind adult children. It’s been several months since the incident. Dad was able to continue on by going on the ride that they were training for and mom is trying to reach out to Rick’s widow so that she will not feel isolated. My dad is the ‘keep it together pull it together’ type so it is really hard for me to tell sometimes how badly things affect him, but I think that this incident still has him pretty shaken up, even several months later. Rick was a Catholic though, who was active in his parish, so we have some assurance and comfort in that. But a situation like that is enough to affect anyone.
