I took Rico in, he being a former student, over the summer as a foster youth; he turned 18 in December. He was removed from my home early (as he was from many others) for violence. Still three months ago, I agreed to take him back in to work toward his degree and retain County stipends through age 21. At the end of March, however, he badly injured me at our new place; not just once, but several times. I love the boy dearly–always will–but also know I have no choice but to file a permanent restraining order, something that will greatly damage many opportunities he might have in the future. We had our initial court hearing on April 18th, and a second one is scheduled for July 18th. Though I think I may at last finally have the wisdom I’ve needed to come to the conclusions I’ve reached, it is still quite tempting to go easy on him—which is exactly what caused his taking advantage and abuse to worsen drastically to begin with. I ask for God’s will to be made clear, as well as for the courage, strength, and humility to carry it out. Please join me in this prayer.
