For my friend C who I have to put in a nursing home

My family has a longtime friend, “C”, who is not a blood relation but basically was like an aunt to me when I was growing up. She has been a devout Catholic her whole life. She met my mother about 60 years ago when they were both single working women and my mother kind of took her “under her wing” due to her coming from a dysfunctional family situation and having been raised mostly by religious order sisters. C has been part of my life my whole life.

C is now 90 years old and has been living in her own apartment with paid caregivers for some years, but within the last couple months her health has seriously declined and we now need to put her in a nursing home. She is scared and doesn’t want to go but there’s no other good way to take care of her, as she’s gotten beyond what the in-home caregivers can handle. This is difficult for me too, to see her get to this point.

Please pray for C and for all of her caregivers and myself, so we can deal with this appropriately and also that God will help C to adjust to her declining health, not let her suffer, and take her home when he is ready.

God bless.

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. x10

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Offering up prayers to our Merciful Father for C. May she be blessed with peace and comfort from You oh Eternal One, during this trying time in her life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

✞ In the name of the Father,
And of the Son,
And of the Holy Spirit.
Amen

Hail Mary
Full of grace,
The Lord is with Thee.
Blessed art Thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb,
Jesus
Holy Mary
Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of death, Amen.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless, and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible,
look kindly upon us, and increase your mercy in us,
that in difficult moments, we might not despair nor become despondent,
but with great confidence, submit ourselves to your holy will,
which is Love and Mercy itself.
Amen.

St. Anthony Prayer for the Elderly

O loving St. Anthony, patron saint of the elderly, I ask your
special prayers for C and all other elderly people.

Pray, beloved saint, that they are grateful for the years
they have lived, content with their place in life, have hearts
and minds that are full of happy memories and thankful
thoughts, that they are blessed with good health, and
that they are examples of Christian living for all they
love and meet.

Please pray that if they are tested with illness, suffering,
loneliness, or the death of loved ones that they be blessed
with God’s peace and comfort, strength and courage.

And when their time comes to enter into eternal life,
I pray you welcome them into Heaven where, along with
the other saints, they might praise God forever and ever.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

Lord, have mercy on C, give her the graces to see that the move to a home is in her own best interest. Lord, Bless Tis_Bearself and all the care givers who took care of C when she was at home. Give everyone the graces needed to accept what is going to happen next to C. Lord keep C strong until you are ready for her to come home.

Thank you all for your prayers. While this is not a pleasant thing, and nursing homes are never pleasant places, the transition has so far been going more smoothly than I thought it would. Most of all I am happy that this place will not put her out on the street or force her to move to another facility if her funds deplete and they have to work on the transition over to Medicaid. That was my biggest worry since I don’t think she has any long-term care insurance.

Also her local caregiver who has been looking after her as a paid job for a year is being extremely helpful and caring.

Thank you JESUS for these blessings and for sending the right people to help. I am good with accounting, bills, estates, legal stuff. I am terrible at caregiving.

Thank you Mother Mary, St. Joseph, St. Anthony, St. Francis and St. Clare, St. Jeanne Jugan, St. Jude, St. Therese, Servant of God Rhoda Wise, and Mother Angelica, and all the guardian angels and holy angels and all the other saints who helped with this whole scary mess.

St. Patrick’s Breastplate

I arise today

Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,

Through belief in the Threeness,

Through confession of the Oneness

of the Creator of creation.

I arise today

Through the strength of Christ’s birth with His baptism,

Through the strength of His crucifixion with His burial,

Through the strength of His resurrection with His ascension,

Through the strength of His descent for the judgment of doom.

I arise today

Through the strength of the love of cherubim,

In the obedience of angels,

In the service of archangels,

In the hope of resurrection to meet with reward,

In the prayers of patriarchs,

In the predictions of prophets,

In the preaching of apostles,

In the faith of confessors,

In the innocence of holy virgins,

In the deeds of righteous men.

I arise today, through

The strength of heaven,

The light of the sun,

The radiance of the moon,

The splendor of fire,

The speed of lightning,

The swiftness of wind,

The depth of the sea,

The stability of the earth,

The firmness of rock.

I arise today, through

God’s strength to pilot me,

God’s might to uphold me,

God’s wisdom to guide me,

God’s eye to look before me,

God’s ear to hear me,

God’s word to speak for me,

God’s hand to guard me,

God’s shield to protect me,

God’s host to save me

From snares of devils,

From temptation of vices,

From everyone who shall wish me ill,

afar and near.

I summon today

All these powers between me and those evils,

Against every cruel and merciless power

that may oppose my body and soul,

Against incantations of false prophets,

Against black laws of pagandom,

Against false laws of heretics,

Against craft of idolatry,

Against spells of witches and smiths and wizards,

Against every knowledge that corrupts man’s body and soul;

Christ to shield me today

Against poison, against burning,

Against drowning, against wounding,

So that there may come to me an abundance of reward.

Christ with me,

Christ before me,

Christ behind me,

Christ in me,

Christ beneath me,

Christ above me,

Christ on my right,

Christ on my left,

Christ when I lie down,

Christ when I sit down,

Christ when I arise,

Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,

Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,

Christ in every eye that sees me,

Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today

Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,

Through belief in the Threeness,

Through confession of the Oneness

of the Creator of creation

Thank you all for your prayers. A short update on C: She was placed in the home for about a week. During that time she got some needed medical care, but she was not happy and there were some issues with how the home was handling her case. So she and her caregiver decided to take her out and continue providing care in her residence where she is much happier. I will be checking in when I am next in her town to see how this is all going. It is my hope that she can stay in her house until the end of her natural life, and not have to go into a nursing home, because she was really not doing well in there. She is very old so a natural death in her own home is definitely a possibility. I appreciate all the prayers.
