I heard from my dad today that my uncle had my grandmother admitted to the hospital yesterday. It’s a long story why we didn’t hear about it yesterday, family politics and all that.

She is having complications with pressure sores, and I’m sure other issues they will discover. She is in extremely poor health and really should be in a nursing home, but my uncle continues to take care of her in the home.

Please pray for both of them - that she is comfortable and not in pain, and that my uncle can make the right decisions regarding her care, and finally realize he can’t do it alone any more.

We are going to see her shortly - it’s not going to be a good visit, on many levels. 😦

Lizaanne, the time has come for a family meeting about Grandma’s care. It is very likely that the hospital’s case manager or medical social worker will intervene here, and in case they don’t, it is perfectly OK for your father to request a discharge planning conference. All he needs to do is ask the nurse on duty, and she can set the ball rolling. Maybe Grandma could come home with visiting nurses, or maybe she needs a care facility, but if she is full of bedsores, etc., it’s time for your uncle to have some professional help with her care. Praying for all of you.

Jesus, Divine Physician and Healer of the sick, we turn to you in this time of illness. Comforter of the troubled, alleviate our worry and sorrow with your gentle love, and grant us the grace and strength to accept this burden. Dear God, we place our worries in your hands. We place our sick under your care and humbly ask that you restore Lizaanne’s Grandma to health again. Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge your holy will and know that whatsoever you do, you do for the love of us… AMEN

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

God Bless

Dear Liza,
Praying for your Grandma. I pray that our Lord knows what is best for her in every possible way and that the outcome will be His will. I pray that everyone in the family will be put at ease with whatever the Father will do regarding this situation. I also ask Our Lady to intervene on the family’s behalf and to ask her Son to support and strengthen the family during this difficult time. Amen.

You and your whole family are in my prayers right now. Keep prayin before and while you are visting your grandma and your family.

PRayerfully,

Renato

Praying…

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Lord Jesus, I ask that you send your healings to this Grandmother. Cover her with your Precious Blood, Lord. Send your Angels to surround her and give her comfort. Give her peace Lord. A Grandmother is a true blessing in a family. Allow her caregiver to make decisions that will be only the best for her. As the doctors and nurses touch her, let it be Your Hands Lord. Heal those pressure sores and ease her pain. I ask this in loving memory of my own Grandmother Lord. Amen and Amen.

God Bless you and your family, I hope that the “politics” will be resolved and bring your family back together. Once they are gone, that’s it. Hold on to each other. I know it is sometimes hard to look beyond all of the differences, but if you look at your family with the eyes and heart of God, you will only see the love that you have for them. I know everything will work out for the Glory of God. Again, God Bless and may you have peace.

Thank you ALL for your prayers! This is just so lovely!

I went to see her last night. She was quite lucid, but I think this is mostly because she was well hydrated, something that doesn’t happen properly at home. My uncle did say to my dad that he is going to talk to the hospital staff about his options, and he hopes he doesn’t do anything stupid like take her back home. Praise God - he finally is realizing this is beyond his ability to handle alone. I’m about to get ready to go back up to the hospital myself soon to make sure he stays strong in this conviction and that all the right questions get asked.

Keep praying - I really don’t want to see her go back home, I think she needs better care than he can give her now, and in home care I don’t think would be sufficient at this point.

Thank you again everyone - I’m a believer in answered prayer. Though I don’t expect this 91 year old woman to ever dance again, I know she will be comfortable and well cared for, and that’s all I can ask at this stage.

I just got back from seeing her again - it looks like they are going to try to place her in a nursing facility on Monday or early next week. I’m so glad for this. My uncle needs a break (as much as he would never admit it), and she needs a break as well. Her blood pressure was a bit elevated today and she didn’t eat anything but some grapes all day - but that’s how she goes. She will stay awake for a week straight, then sleep for three days straight. She has no routine whatsoever at home - hopefully they can change that a bit.

Anyway - thank you all again for your prayers - they do truly mean so much. 🙂

Liza, I remember when we finally put my great-aunt into a nursing home. She had been at home in her apartment with some aides from Senior Services to stay with her, but all they did was the housekeeping chores because she wouldn’t let them touch her for any sort of personal care. (She would let me trim her toenails, though, since I’m a nurse. Ick – talk about a corporal work of mercy! :o ). The nursing home was the best thing that could have happened to her. Moving there got her out of that crummy apartment and into a routine…and into the whirlpool tub! 👍 So often in the news we only hear the bad reports about nursing homes, but this one was very nice and Auntie had excellent care. I pray that things go as well for your Grandma.

God bless you all,
Carrie

Dear Liza,

Just wondering, how is your grandma doing? Still praying!

Thank you mom4truth! 🙂

I stopped by briefly yesterday to drop off a little duffel bag for her things (uncle had her stuff in grocery bags  ). She was being quite combative and very vocal, swearing and stuff - but that’s the dementia talking, not her, I know this. He said that she was about the same, her blood pressure is still slightly elevated, but they are just keeping an eye on things and not giving her any meds for that just yet. Uncle is trying to find any way possible to blame the high BP on the hospital. I do feel sorry for any facility she gets placed in - it will never be right or good enough because they won’t do things the same way he does them, and I’m sure they will make their lives a living hell.

Oh well - it will still be better than going back home. Carrie, I agree with you, it will be so much better than going back home where he can only give her the most minimal care. We had foot issues with her as well - the podiatrist had to cut years of toenail growth the other day - honestly, those who care for the ill and elderly are truly saints on earth.

Thanks again for prayers! She is supposed to be moved tomorrow - please pray this happens, and without too much incident from uncle.

Having worked in healthcare for many years, I know only too well that type of family-member. Because they are feeling out-of-control of the situation, they want to control the things they can, and often that means being demanding toward the staff, micromanaging the patient’s care, etc. We nurses are used to dealing with such personalities, but that doesn’t make it much fun. If only people like that would realize the truth to the old adage, “You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.” Praying for a smooth transition to the nursing home, and that Uncle will be a help and not a thorn in everyone’s side. Hail Mary…

Dear Liza,
Thank you for the update on grandma. I will continue praying for her. Please keep in touch with all of us! God bless you, dear one. Much love.
