I am humbly asking for prayers for myself. I have come to a crossroads in life and I am frightened for the future.

I recently attended my 25th high school reunion. It was a great time, meeting all the guys and catching up, everyone was really friendly and kind to me, especially considering I had had a tough life since then and there are some of them who could afford to be really mean.

But even so, I feel like I presented myself at the pinnacle of achievement. I’m employed, I have a stable home and close family, my mental health is well controlled. But I stand at a precipice now.

My home was recently re-infested with bed bugs. The exterminator came and thankfully there was no additional charge (I’m paying $36/mo as “insurance” since the last time I had them) but I still have fresh bites on my legs so I worry that he didn’t catch them all and I’ll be forced to undergo a full, invasive treatment session.

My performance review at work came back awful. Then my boss went on vacation. I met with her boss (who is also my pastor) and he seemed absolutely convinced he’d fire me. Then I had to leave town and fly out on my vacation. I return to work tomorrow and I’m going to have to talk to my boss and tell her something. I don’t know what to tell her though.

My mood has been deteriorating since January or earlier. I suffer from bipolar disorder which was well-controlled with 2mg daily of one medication. But lately I have been more depressed than anything, just surviving the day, barely waking up in the morning, not enjoying anything much. They noticed at work, and coupled with my laziness it really impacted my performance. Even if I work myself to the bone I cannot promise them I will smile more or joyfully discharge my duties because I am too abjectly depressed to do anything.

I hadn’t seen a doctor since April and over Easter I had one dilly of a manic episode. I figured I could hold on until June, but then my appointment was cancelled, then my doctor (trusted, wonderful doctor of over six years) was gone from the clinic. Then my appointment last Friday was cancelled with no notice to me. Well I hit the panic button in the clinic and pleaded my case until it was escalated and I got seen. So a good talk with the prescriber landed me increased doses of meds and Ambien so I could sleep. I was mollified for a day.

Then Saturday came and I struggled to stay awake, having already increased my dosages in anticipation of the new prescriptions. I became filled with dread, because I simply cannot afford to struggle like this during a work day. Then I went to Mass, and headed to the pharmacy. The pharmacy bluntly informed me that my insurance was expired. I once more sank into abject fear and despair. But I knew exactly what had happened, because I ignored a notice from the agency which I thought was bogus, because in my state there are 3-4 agencies administering Medicaid and the letter was from one that was not administering mine, but sure enough, they managed to cancel it anyway. Of course my meds are too expensive for me to afford out of pocket, so I said auf wiedersehn to the pharmacy until I could sort it out.

So yesterday I began the arduous process of re-applying for medical insurance (this medical lapse would not have affected my mental health care except they recently unified services in my state, so I can receive no type of health care until this is resolved.)

I talked to my parents and there are a few things they can do to help. They won’t let me starve or be kicked out on the streets again. They are my safety net and I pray for their continued health.

There may be nothing I can do to prevent being fired. And that will guarantee my unemployability. It has been ten years since I worked last, and if I can’t even hold a job as a part-time receptionist, what good am I?

I live in a dump. I applied to a new apartment complex but it is doubtful they could accommodate me, so I haven’t got my hopes up.

It will be a long bumpy ride for me for a while now. Please pray that this won’t absolutely destroy me. I can only hope to mitigate the damage done.

Prayer of St. Dymphna

Lord, our God, you graciously chose St. Dymphna as patroness of those afflicted with mental, emotional, and nervous disorders. She is thus an inspiration and a symbol of charity to the thousands who ask her intercession.

Please grant, Lord, through the prayers of this pure youthful martyr, relief and consolation to all suffering such trials, and especially Elizium23, for whom we pray.

We beg you, Lord, to hear the prayers of St. Dymphna on our behalf. Grant all those for whom we pray patience in their sufferings and resignation to your divine will.

Please fill them with hope, and grant them the relief and cure they so desire.
We ask this through Christ our Lord who suffered agony in the garden. Amen.

A prayer against depression

O Christ Jesus
When all is darkness
And we feel our weakness and helplessness,
Give us the sense of Your Presence,
Your Love and Your Strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
In Your protecting love
And strengthening power,
So that nothing may frighten or worry us,
For, living close to You,
We shall see Your Hand,
Your Purpose, Your Will through all things.

By St. Ignatius of Loyola

I will pray for you and light a 7 day candle. Perhaps you can approach your brother Sir while your place gets sorted out.
Peace,

Prayer for the Spirit of Work

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord, and not for yourselves. Remember that the Lord will reward you; you will receive what he has kept for his people. For Christ is the real master you serve.” -Colossians 3:23-24

They shall flourish forever in the courts of our God.

God our Father, Creator and Ruler of the universe, in every age you call us to use and develop our gifts for the good of others. With St. Joseph as our guide, help us to do the work you have asked and come to the rewards you have promised. Please grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

NOVENA PRAYER FOR THOSE SUFFERING FROM BIPOLAR

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be

St. Teresa’s of Avila’s Hymn to Get Rid of an Infestation

You clothe us with apparel new,
Heavenly King!
Should creatures vile invest our frieze,
Deliverance bring!

These tiresome creatures much disturb
in time of prayer
Minds which are ill established
in things of God.

Should creatures vile infest our frieze,
Deliverance bring!

You who’ve come here prepared for death,
Yield not one whit,
And such vile creatures great or small,
Fear not at all.

You’ve clothed us now in livery new,
Heavenly King.
Should creatures vile infest our frieze,
Deliverance bring!
Amen!

PATER NOSTER, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

Oh my. 😦

Remembering you and your intentions in my daily prayers. God bless and take care.

Praying my heart out for you to find happiness and peace of mind.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Elizium,
I take it by your avatar/icon that you are a Knight of Columbus. I’m sure you’ve asked your Council to pray for you as well and, as a Brother Knight from another Council, I’ll join them in prayer also. I’ve found my Brother Knights to be most helpful and I encourage you to ask their assistance on your challenge.

You mention your supervisor’s boss is your pastor so I’m guessing you’re not a practicing Catholic. Not a judgment from me but brings to question your level of commitment if you are a KOC and not a practicing Catholic.

All that aside, I’ve faced ups and downs in my life (with some really low downs) and came to the realization that sometimes we are asked to bear our cross as Jesus bore His. This challenge brought me closer to Christ and gave me greater understanding that all my challenges are nothing compared to what Jesus went through during His last day’s on earth. Even to the very end, Jesus did as His Father wanted and so I came to the understanding that no matter how difficult it seems to me, I need to keep persevering in my task/work just as Jesus did. Your path may not be easy right now but continue to pray and keep moving forward in a positive way in honor of Our Lord. Do not give in to despair and depression; that’s what the evil one wants you to do. God Bless you.
